The school is telling my mom about all the vegetarian choices they offer, half of which I have never seen?!

Question: My mom went to the school today to bring me my lunch box I had forgotten and was asking why there were little to none choices for vegetarians. They took her on a tour of the lunch room, showing her choices I had never seen. They suddenly stopped putting ham on the grilled cheese and salads and the salads were suddenly fresher. Every time I have had to buy my lunch I end up eating some warm "chilled" fruit and a wilted salad. On some days there is absolutely nothing for a vegetarian to eat other than a peanut butter sandwich and a tiny, warm, wilted, brown salad. What can I do? The principal is convinced there are enough foods for vegetarians, my mom has talked to her without my knowledge. The lunch ladies do a fabulous job with everything else.

Put together a proposal and go to the principal with it. Gather as much information about vegetarianism as you can, give the school simple solutions and propose it. There are vegetarian foods and alternatives that even non-vegetarians will like and it will be much healthier.

go to www.peta2.com

they will have info to help you veggie your cafeteria

If you're like me and tend to be annoyingly outspoken, keep fighting until you win. Make an appointment with the principal and ask him why it is that when your mom wishes to see the food, it's great, but when it comes time to actually SERVE it to you, it's trash. You shouldn't be starving because of ANYBODY. Best of luck!
:]

Dont' go to PETA dear. They have no clout with school board and will only piss everyone off like they usually do.

You sound like a nice assertive young man. A couple of suggestions--Do you have a digital camera . . . or can you borrow one? Take some photos of what you usually find. Or how about a disposable camera.

Failing that . . . bring home the lunch that you "bought".

Also you might sit down with Mom and tell her that "something is fishy" ... the food she saw is NOT the usual vegetarian food that is there. Get some of your friends to be witnesses for Mom ... .even if they aren't vegetarian, I'll bet they would "testify" to what they saw.

Your principal is a typical politician ... don't want to rile the parents, so she put on a show for your Mom. When Mom finds out she's been conned, believe me the principal wont' know what hit her. Moms do NOT like to be fooled!!!

They suddenly stopped putting ham on the grilled cheese, and the salads were suddenly fresher? lol
I'm sure you could ask for a grilled cheese without ham at any time? No one's going to force you to have ham on it, I would imagine, and who puts ham on a salad? If the food is as bad as you say, the non-vegs probably aren't eating so great either.

All you have to do is ask the lunch lady for a vegetarian sandwich or whatever they're serving. She probably keeps them separate and doesn't put them out, but she can give you one if you ask. That's what many schools do anyway.

How many vegetarian kids against non vegetarian kids? You made a choice kid and sometimes you have to live with it whether you like it or not. It would be foolish and costly for the school to make separate lunches just for the vegetarian kids. Being a vegetarian is a lifestyle choice not a religion so you can't even claim that. If you really want, start a signature campaign about healthier choices FOR EVERYBODY in the cafeteria instead of just accommodating a few vegetarian students. And unless you want to pi-ss everybody off or fail, avoid PETA at all costs. Good luck
