They do have a strong taste, and when placed into the hands of an inexperienced cook, can end up faded, mushy, foul-smelling and tasteless.

A lot of people aren't exposed to vegetables and see them as foreign. When you're eating spaghetti sauce and potatoes, say, as your primary vegetables, the idea of cooking or eating broccoli isn't always appealing.

And, it doesn't necessarily mean a lot of people dislike them - maybe only 2 or 3 percent of the people polled disliked brussels sprouts, but that was still more than the percent of people that disliked other vegetables.

Ha ha... I can agree with the brussel sprouts and beats, but as to the rest... who knows! Of course, I only like broccoli and cauliflower cooked... Great question though! :-)

I like all those vegetables

People are used to eating fried and processed food that when they taste something natural they thinks its nasty
(that's my guess)

Because they polled 8-10 year olds? What are the MOST popular? Lettuce, string beans, peas, carrots and what else?

I like all of those except beets. I'm getting closer. Spinach and broccoli are great!

Renee---I have a good brussels sprouts recipe but it's not V & V friendly.

Remember eating in the school cafeteria? Mushy broccoli that was only edible with a layer of bright orange cheese...flavorless spinach dumped right out of the can, etc?? Those were my first experiences with vegetables and for years I thought that I didn't like them either. Our parents can also do a number on us. If your caregiver doesn't know how to cook well or always fed you canned vegetables then you might have a negative attitude regarding those foods. That was how my fiance felt when we started dating and now all of those foods listed are some of his favorites! It's a shame, that's all I know!
