Do any other Vegans get sick of cold salads all the time.?!
Anyone agree ?
Answers: I find that Hot veggies seem to make me feel as though I have actually had a meal.
Anyone agree ?
Ayurvedic cooking (India's medicine) says that cold foods are hard on the digestion, and that cooked food is easier.
Also lettuce is just mainly water, vitamins/minerals, and a cellulose matrix, so you will not get the glucose you need for energy . . . .even the energy needed to digest it!
I love salads in the summer, with fruits and other vegetables sprinkled on top, but when it gets cold out I love to roast my vegetables (the oven keeps the kitchen warm!).
Also, I do not like to feel so stuffed, which I am taking your comment of "actually had a meal" to mean. I eat every 2 to 3 hours, small little meals, to keep the energy level throughout the day, and wind down at night.
I also don't eat salads all the time. I have so many non vegan friends that ask me that question. I tell them that I hardly eat salads, and eat mainly rice dishes, pasta dishes, and bean dishes.
My favorite dish that I am making that is kind of a hot salad is to first sautee onions with fakin bakin till they are crisp, and then throw in some cut up swiss chard stalks to get them soft, and then throw in the chopped up swiss chard leaves, mustard green leaves, and if you can handle the earthy taste of red russian kale leaves throw them in too! I sautee them down till they are soft and the green color is intense. I then splash balsamic vinegar and tamari/soy sauce over the top and eat! Yummy for the winter time!
Ashley, I have reported you. Expect to have your Yahoo! account terminated shortly.
Now to actually answer the question which is what most of us are here for... I don't actually have salads very often because I don't really like them. I agree, they don't feel like a proper meal unless I add things like fake meat, tofu or beans to it but I do have them as a side dish a couple of times a week just to keep a varied diet. They're ok in the summer but when the weather's colder I much prefere a warm soup or plate of hot veggies.
then why dont you have hot veggies?
Hello! use your imagination girl...Buy a decent vegan cook book..
Cold salads all the time...No way.
Jenny84 I'm reporting you cos you said fake meat..Prepare to have your Yahoo account terminated.
Do you have a secret desire to eat the real stuff..
Just jokin sweety
Try not to mix with mayonnaise (which contain egg). Influenza (cold, flu, etc) and FluMist is also made by growing the viruses in eggs.

There is vegetarian mayonnaise and salad dressing available in the market.
If you think that being vegan is only about eating salads, then you are ignorant. Vegans are supposed to avoid all animal products. Yet, they can consume rice, pasta, beans, fruits, vegetables, soy, potatoes, bread, cereals, etc. You just have to mix these foods together and create a meal, either hot or cold. I suggest that you make a deep research on the vegan diet and buy yourself a vegan cookbook. I have about 3 huge fat vegan cookbooks so there is no excuse in saying that there is no variety. You are human, not horse.
Ashley, I have also reported you. Twice.
I am not keen on hot veg, atall, unless in soups! I love most veg raw, and couls live on salads! Infact, apart from Pasta & pesto, which I adore, I mainly DO live on salad! I am vegetarian, not vegan.
I happen to really luv Fresh Salads but sure I need hot food too. I enjoy a nice bowl of homemade Veggie Soup. Or Brown Rice with Veggies, or some nice Oven Roasted Veggies. Where did you get the idea cold salads was the deal? If it's veggie you can eat it in all it's froms!!!
Last night I made up a lovely batch.

I agree completely. It's like cold broccoli or carrot stick is a snack and doesn't count. I like to add some warm/grilled thigns to my cold salads too, mushrooms on a salad are great!
The colder it gets the less satisfying cold salads are for me. I am only now starting to appreciate lightly steamed veggies - I used to hate veggies by themselves when I was younger.
I think a lot of that feeling (hot foods being a meal) is due to conditioning, but I do tend to agree with you. It's one of the reasons I had a hard time wtih a raw diet. A bowl full of steaming beans never tasted so good as after eating raw food for a month!
you mske it seem as though vegans only eat cold salads all the time
man have some vegan pizza
=]]
So eat hot veggies!! While I eat salads, it's not all I eat. I have a pretty varied diet and enjoy trying new dishes all the time--like this vegan pot roast I made earlier this week. Mmmm.
Who the heck is Ashley?
A big T-Bone Steak makes me feel like I've had a meal.
