How to add taste to vegetarian soup?!
Answers: I'm trying to make steak soup with the fake hamburger. I can't use chicken broth or beef base to add flavor. Any suggestions?
I understand what you mean. Vegetarian soups can often lack a depth of flavor. I usually sautee plenty of veggies until browned in olive oil to add a rich caramelized flavor. For a steak-like soup it would be great to sautee lots of onions, leeks, and mushrooms. I like to use vegetable base with water in place of meat stocks. I have also found that if you stir nutritional yeast into the soup when it's nearly done that it gives it a depth of flavor. What about adding steak seasoning? That would add a good flavor too.
Good luck! With winter approaching soup sounds very comforting!!
When you make soup vegetarian style, you should use vegetable broth. Most stores carry it with the beef and chicken broth. They also have vegetable bouillon cubes.
add steak
just put all these spices
Try fresh basil, taragon or rosemary. They all add great flavors to ur soup
spices? vegetables?
tomatos!
adding a can of tomatos to almost anything will improve the flavour and should thicken the soup nicely as well.
Use Vegetable Broth, add some garlic or onion. If you want to add some kick use a few drops of hot sauce. You can also add some fresh herbs like parsley or citantro (one of my favorites!)
Follow whatever recipe you're using and just substitute vegetable broth for the meat broth.
I add coconut milk, lime juice and red pepper flakes to mine.
Crimini mushrooms
Veggie broth! The best veggie broths that I have found are called "Better then bouillon." They make a wide array of broths, including meat ones (beef, chicken, lobster, etc)...but they also have a veggie one and a mushroom one. Though I have never tried the mushroom broth I think it would work well for a fake-steak soup. Mushrooms tend to have that rich, earthy, kinda-meaty flavor.
