What's the point in being vegetarian?!
but for now...
eating meat is apart of life. Its natural. we eat meat, then we die. we go into the earth and grass grows. who eats grass? COWS. and it goes around. its the natural circle of life. we eat animals, they eat us.
The reason why MOST PEOPLE are vegetarians is because THE PROCESS they use to grow and kill the animals is cruel. and i agree with that.
but being a vegetarian is stupid.... its like being a half-assed vegan. if you're gonna boycott animal cruelty, be a vegan.
oh and also, fruits and vegetables are alive too. way to go and kill them for food. i guess you just shouldnt eat anything at all.
so do tell me, why are people vegetarians then? whats your reason?
Answers: i love animals, hate animal cruelty, and will probably be a vegan in the future when i live on my own and can buy my own food.

I have seen some very good and very bad responses to your question so far...for those who had a fairly good response about why they are vegetarians but not vegans, I want to clarify for them that animals are harmed when it comes to obtaining milk and eggs. They still live in very small spaces and do not receive fair treatments...even if they are not killed.
I am not a vegan...it is actually something that I aspire to. A lot of the time being vegan can be rather expensive...something a poor college student can not afford.
Yes, fruits and vegetables are alive...but they are not thinking beings. They do not cry, or love one another, or feel pain. And yeah, eating meat is a natural...its the process that has faults. If that were better I would be more willing to consider eating meat.
I am a vegetarian for many reasons. Meat has always been gross for me. Animals get hurt and live miserable lives. Meat production uses and wastes a lot of resources (so people can have their 99 cent cheeseburger). But also, it is not necessary for my diet or health. If I lived in a different time or place where eating meat was necessary then I would do so. And if I was going hungry and meat was my only option...then of course I would eat it. But fortunately, I do not have to eat my fellow creatures and my decision not to do so helps my body and all of the animals who do not end up on my dinner plate.
TO NOT EAT ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
vegetarians are against the killing of animals...check out PETA
The natural circle of life also includes small humans being eaten by mountain lions. Are you OK with that?
It's what vegetarians like to eat. Some based it on their beliefs, some purely on their diets, while others based it on both.
Its about being able to control something in your life.
It's a great fad with a nifty title that let's people feel like hippies. To bad that you also have to look all pale and mal-nurished in order to get the title. But in the end it's all good because I wouldn't want the title anyway because meat not only tastes good but it's good for you.
There are many flaws with your statements.
First off, vegetarians are not half-assed vegans. Vegetarians do eat dairy products BUT THE ANIMAL ISN'T KILLED.
Also, plants (such as fruits/veggies) are alive but have no feelings. Therefore eating a plant does not harm anything since they can't feel, have no feelings, and technically are NOT living.
Stating what you just said, I find hard to believe you will ever be a vegan, though that would be nice.
I am a vegetarian because I do not like the killing/cruelty of innocent animals. I eat dairy products because the animal is not harmed or killed to get the dairy.
Next time think about what your saying and get your facts straight before you try insulting people so you don't make a fool of yourself (like you just did).
I hope I helped clear that up for you.
Have a nice day. :]
Some do it just for health. Others on principle.
You might have come across as legitimate until you said fruits and vegetables are alive and blah blah blah....there is a reason to use them in an argument but your's isn't it.
Because I want to be. No desire to be a vegan. I like dairy to taste like dairy(not soy or rice) and nothing beats a cheese, tomato and onion omlette. Yummy.
Well, fruits and vegetables have natural vitamins. Meat is full of homomes that are not good for anyone. Even if an animal has not been injected with hormones (as they are today) they still carry hormones anyway. Also animals are fed antibiotics because the hormones cause infection so people who eat meat are also getting the antibiotics as well. It may cause antibiotics not to work well in your body when you need them. Meat is also sprayed with carbon monoxide to keep it red longer (so they say) also you cannot really tell how old it is. I don't know about you but I wouldn't put head down to my exhaust pipe on my car and breath so why would I want to eat it. Also like the other person was mentioning dairy, well there are hormones in the dairy from animals as well.
MORAL SUPERIORITY EGO BOOST.
Not all animal foods are from factory farms. In fact, there are farms out there that raise animals naturally. If you're going to boycott animal cruelty, you need to do a lot more than go vegan. You need to stop using most of the medicines, soaps, and household products on the market right now.
I'm a vegetarian because the kind of animal flesh that I find acceptable is not widely available, nor does it really appeal to me anymore.
"oh and also, fruits and vegetables are alive too. way to go and kill them for food. i guess you just shouldnt eat anything at all."
Red Herring fallacy. Plants do not have nerves, and when you see them planted, are they in suffering, miserable conditions? No.
"so do tell me, why are people vegetarians then? whats your reason?"
For the health , for the animals, for the environment. I want to be vegan, but in my current situation I cannot for the time being. I will definitely go vegan after this situation is over.
TO BoyBirder:
"I eat dairy products because the animal is not harmed or killed to get the dairy."
Cows are exploited for their milk, spend several years giving 10 times more milk than they would in their natural life, and THEN sent to slaughter for beef. Chickens are not very much different. They are confined to small cages, usually with 6 inside, and forced to lay about 300 eggs an year. That's about 1 egg per day. They cannot spread their wings, fly, sunbathe, anything that is happy for them.
"oh and also, fruits and vegetables are alive too. way to go and kill them for food. i guess you just shouldnt eat anything at all."
Are you high? You'll "probably be a vegan" but you are worried about killing plants. Veganism is about animals. Fruits and vegetables do not suffer.
im a veggeterian since 6th grade and am now in 12th grade and im a vegetarian because i can't eat animals period cause they are animals not only because the process they go through to kill them but just the whole point that they are an animal.
Humans aren't supposed to eat meat. It's not 'natural'.
Why do you think we have to devise tools to kill our meat? You don't see any other carnivores with clubs and guns, do you? No, because they've got the claws, sharp teeth and speed needed to hunt game successfully; herbivore humans don't.
We also have to heat meat to ridiculous temperatures to even make it safe to consume. Real carnivores can consume and digest raw meat; that's 'natural'. If we were really omnivores we wouldn't run the risk of serious illness if we eat raw flesh.
Human digestive tracts are also not designed for digesting animal meat. Natural carnivores have extremely short digestive tracts and strong stomach acid, so the meat can be digested quickly and then the waste removed from the body. Man has a herbivore's digestive system. We have long intestines and weak stomach acid, not suitable for digesting meat, and consequently every time we force meat down ourselves we are doing harm to our bodies.
Not to mention the cruelty, violence and barbarism associated with killing and particularly slaughterhouses, but I'm sure that's been covered already.
And the reason I'm not a vegan is because, while I don't eat eggs, as they're still dead flesh, I believe eating milk products is perfectly acceptable. A mother cow naturally produces milk for her young, humans can easily take what's left over and use it for dairy foods without any violence taking place.
If you want to know more I highly recommend you track down a copy of 'Higher Taste' by Srila Prabhupada.
Almost everyone here pretty much covered it, so the real question is:
What's the point in NOT being vegetarian? (:
We the people of the earth are carnivores.
The men that is. The women can skip the protean
the men need the meat to boost energy
plus a diet without meat is a diet of diatribe.
A man needs meat like he needs a hole in his head,
But his desires, his might, his willpower is all in that T-bone steak with shrooms and fat taters and beer for sweets after.
