For Vegans and animal rights activists:?!
do vegans consume grains/crops planted and harvested using animal labor? Perhaps not in western countries but in many asian and african counties, animals such as oxen and water buffalo are used for planting a variety of crops such as rice, soybeans and corn. A good proportion of these crops are exported to the US, UK and other western countries.Would this practice be considered animal abuse and these foods (or food brands) be off the vegans food list?

"A vegan is someone who tries to avoid - as far as is possible and practical - all forms of exploitation of animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. This is for the benefit of people, animals and the environment. Vegan eat a plant-based diet free from all animal products, such as meat, animal milks, eggs, honey and gelatine. They also avoid animal products like leather, wool and silk for clothing or other purposes."

For many people, it is IMPRACTICAL to find out where every single grain or crop the foods they consume were made from was harvested and whether animal labor was used.
I am sure if some vegans found out that a certain brand was abusing animals they would cross them off their own personal list. What is possible and practical differs for every individual so it is impossible to say what all vegans would do.
As for animal rights activists, there are many different degrees of activism and not everyone agrees on what is right and what is wrong as far as animals being used for different purposes.
Frosty Me, you seem to have an "all or nothing" attitude when it comes to how YOU think a vegetarian should act. People do what they can do. Some people are hardcore and some people aren't. Everyone has different lengths they are willing to go to. Report It
