Vegetarian for a month?!

Question: I have a bet with some friends. Would it be unhealthy to have such a sudden change in diet?

No, it's not unhealthy.. many people go veg overnight without any problems. The site http://www.vegcooking.com/makingthetrans... has lots of tips for new vegetarians. Good luck!

I don't think so, it's gonna be really hard though.

Yes and no. It depends that is in your diet as well.

I changed jobs to work in China, knowing that the food has different germs in it compared to the UK I had only vegetarian dishes. For the first 3 days, but due to the fact they cook everything in the universities canteen in vegetable oil it has a higher %% of fat than that I'm used to back home on a non veg*n diet. The result was that I became ill with stomach pains and bad gas, on day 3, I went to the doctors and was told that my enzymes in my stomach had been killed off.

No.
Orthodox Christians give up meat and all kinds of dairy products for lent, the forty days before Easter, every year.

Good luck! I recommend the "Moosewood Cookbook".

It would be OK as long as they get the protein from peanuts etc...

I can't think of any reason why it would be unhealthy.

The biggest change will be mentally in that period of time. Physically you will see little effect.

No, it would not be unhealthy. I went from being a meat eater one day to being a vegetarian the next and have had nothing but a positive experience for the last 9 months. I went "cold turkey" because I had a profound moral awakening that led me to become a vegetarian. Going vegetarian for a bet would probably make it much more difficult to hold true to, but physically it won't be harmful.

Nob, as long as you meet the nutrition & calorie criteria.

You may see wonders after 2 week of experience. Your engine (body system) will replenish, clearing the residue from your body from "norm to normal", and eventually body will perform optimally.

it is not hard

not if you do your diet change properly! Some people have to eat the same amounts of things each day or things with the same level of nutrients
vitamins, etc. Others can eat the same food but average things out in a week. Aquarians do this.. I know cause I'm Aquarius! As long as your body gets what it needs and knows when it's getting it!

No, because it's not a huge change in diet (unless you just eat meat, meat, meat all day or something), but if you do it properly so you get the proper protien/nutrients then it's no change really, just eat veggie burgers/etc and beans instead of meat in your meals.

well, vegetables and fruit are very healthy... it would be a healthy diet - and just one month won't hurt you in any way i guess...

I would consult your family doctor/dietitian before making a commitment.
