Why would someone answer "steak" to a Q about veg dinner?!
Or is meat your only calling? Should it be spelled with a capital M?
What am I missing about the meat evangelist mindset?
.
Answers: Meat evangelists, do you go in the Spirits and Wine section and answer "AA" to every question? Do you go to the Non-Alcoholic Drinks section and suggest "a shot of vodka" in each glass?

Honestly, I don't think it is just a meat/veggie issue. People have a hard time staying on topic period. I have tried to ask moral questions and specifically said I wanted a secular reason because I already know all of the religious ones. No dice; 90% of the respondants had to bring in religion.
People seem to see Y!A, or perhaps the internet in general, as their own bully pulpit.
Half of them do it just to get a rise out of us. The remaining half, I'm guessing, don't even notice the "veggie" part of the question.
Or, like Michael H says, they click on the question from the General Food category. I don't know why all questions in subcategories temporarily end up in 'General' - kinda defeats the point of categorization.
It could be they just didn't realize what section of Answers they were in. I recently reccomended a chicken recipe to a vegan, without realizing I had wandered into the vegan section. I felt like an idiot once I figured that out lol
I think they do it because it irritates the simple minded people. Also a lot of these questions start in the regular food and drink forum.
It is true that the questions pop up on the main "answers" section as soon as it's posted. Also, when you just click on FOOD AND DRINK it shows all the questions from all the subcategories. Or it could just be one of the pet trolls we keep around to make us feel better by reminding us how bored and pathetic we COULD be.
Likewise I bet people get fed up seeing PETA propaganda in when they click on the food and drink section. Theres quite a couple of AR trolls on here too, but you don't see meat eaters writing notes complaining about them.
I'm sorry about the few careless minded meat eaters but most of us are not like that. But to be honest there times I write silly notes in the veg*n section but its just because I seen a veg*n write something just as equally stupid.
1) This forum is not "yours". People can post anyhing they want. If Yahoo finds it offensive, it is removed. if not, it is allowed
2) That is their opinion - A dissenting opinion is not necessarily wrong, it is just different. They are free to express their opinion as much as you are free to agree or disagree with theirs
3) They find it amusing - So what? Ever heard a joke that wasn't really funny? Ever told one that people thought lame? If it doesn't amuse you, then ignore it.
4) They have their own agenda - and like I said, this is an open forum. Not for your exclusive use only.
Evangelist mindset? No, it is freedom of speech mindset that you are missing...
Some of them are trying to pi** off others, and some of them just accidentally answer it not knowing what section it is from. I just try to ignore the ignoramies that come in here and say stupid things to get to us, they are meaningless to me.
They do it to prove a point. I'm not sure what the point is, but I'm sure they have one. :)
They are trolls. Some are stupid, some are hateful, some are spiteful.
The daft occasionally funny ones are ok, pointless, but ok. There are however some very spiteful people on here who just seem to target people with such hate and vindictiveness i really wonder how they function in life at all.
non are logical so its unlikely you 'll be able to figure them out
Picking up on exsft anwser:
1) This forum is not "yours". People can post anyhing they want. If Yahoo finds it offensive, it is removed. if not, it is allowed
Not true, yahoo have an automated system where answers get removed based on user reporting reliability. Its nothing to do with what Yahoo think. Try reporting someone that no-one else does. I'm currently going through that process and it requires a lot of time to get Yahoo to even talk to you. At least I've got to that stage so see light at the end of the tunnel, but its not easy.
2) That is their opinion - A dissenting opinion is not necessarily wrong, it is just different. They are free to express their opinion as much as you are free to agree or disagree with theirs
Its not an opinion site, its a Q&A site. Answering "EAT MEAT" to a question about how to make Juniper Berry Gravy is not a difference of opinion. A difference of opinion would be "plain flour" or use " corn flour"
3) They find it amusing - So what? Ever heard a joke that wasn't really funny? Ever told one that people thought lame? If it doesn't amuse you, then ignore it.
A joke is when TWO people laugh. When one person ( the poster ) laughs, thats called ridicule
4) They have their own agenda - and like I said, this is an open forum. Not for your exclusive use only.
It is an open forum for Q&A and it has rules. The rules say post topical sensible answers that are accurate to the best of your ability. If the trolls are saying "EAT MEAT" is the best answer they can ever come up with, fair enough, it says a lot about them, thier education and abilities.
edit:
Actually, i need not have typed all that, Kruger, Freddy Kruger has the right answer
Maybe it's because most vegetarians are really preachy and shove their views in other's faces so it's kind of like payback. Also, if they're trying to piss someone off vegetarians are usually good targets because a lot of them feel strongly about their views so it's easy to get them heated.
i know, its quiete funny, they just look retarded
Well it is certainly improper to just say "meat".
However, since this is a V&V forum, and there are those of us who have a broader worldview, our definition of vegetarian/vegan reflects the more global understanding of those terms.
That being said, suggesting poultry, fish or seafood would not be improper. And that's just the way it is.
I agree with Boom Blatz. This is not limited to the V&V forum. You're bound to get plenty of stupid answers on about 90% of the forums. Not too long ago, I asked a question about teaching your cat how to talk on the Cat forum and someone answered "toxic acid." And yes, some people do go on the Beer, Wine, & Spirits forum and answer "AA" to some of the questions.
1) They clicked on this question from the main Food & Drink category and didn't realize it's V&V.
2) They're doing it to wind veg*ans up.
If I see meaty foods in response to a question here--and I can tell when someone has not realized it's the V&V section and when someone is trying to wind us up--they still get a thumbs down for NOT LOOKING AT THE SUBCATEGORY.
some people are hardwired screwily.
I'm a meat eater, and I answer those questions with my favorite vegetarian meal: Pasta.
I actually won best answer for one.
I respect your choices and, while I may not believe in them myself, I will not try to force my diet on anyone.
except those who try to force their's on me first.
Sorry not to be rude but i don't know what you are trying to ask.
Too much ado over nothing
