Is it true that french fries are fried with animal lard?!

Question: Well it entirely depends on the restaurant. McDonalds has publicly released a statement to various vegan societies and associations, including the prevailing vegan society in the US and the UK, that their fries do have animal content in them, widely speculated to be part of their 'natural flavor' ingredients. Beforehand, McDonalds used to cook their fries in beef broth and oil, which was their company secret, but new laws and a push for change by vegetarians made them reduce any hint of beef to 'natural flavor', which isn't widely regulated by the government, and companies do not have to list what sources their natural flavors come from.

It depends. They could be, although often they are cooked in vegetable fat.

some restaurants use beef tallow in their fryers, while others have switched to100% vegetable shortening. Even the ones that are veggie often use hydrogenated oils which are loaded with trans fat.

French fries are generally pretty bad for you. I make my own at home by spraying my potatoes with olive oil and sprinkling with sea salt, then baking at 400 deg F until nice and brown.

im thinking yes

not all of them.
it depends where you live, in england id say most are not cooked in animal fat. but some could be, its always worth cheking

No, their fried in what ever you want them to be fried in.

Some are, in the UK you can tell by the smell, particularly in the North east - Yorkshire / Whitby area there are many that fry in animal fats.

In the traditional "fish and chip" shop they now tend to use vegetable oils.

If you are talking about fast food chains, not really, they tend to fry using vegetable oil but use beef in the reconstituted fries to add flavour.

they can be. it depends on where.

McDonald's used to, until whiny people complained a few years ago.

they don't taste nearly as good anymore.

most places in us use vegetable oil...i dont think its common in europe/canada/asia/africa/australia

In The U.S. hardly anything is cooked with lard anymore. The common exceptions are authentic Mexican foods (usually not big restaurants, but little taco joints) and pastry such as frozen pie shells (but not Marie Callender's).

Not much here in the U.S. anymore.
BUT DEEP FRIED any thing is veryyyy unhealth. Especially for women. That part has made a big splash in the news lately.

Slainté(to your health)

Depends on the restaurant. Just ask!

We bake our fries,so much more healthy and yummier

Umm that would depend on if they were fried in lard or not.

mcdonalds uses natural beef flavoring.
i would look it up depending on where you eat your fries.

Ask as it really does depend on the venue
It is better to be safe than sorry

A lot of french fries are fried in hydrogenated vegetable oil. Each place is probably different though. The only way to make sure there aren't any animal ingredients is to ask. You'd be surprised at what has animal ingredients.
