It is an insoluble fiber and a lot of people really do have trouble digesting it.

Don't get me wrong, insoluble fiber is GOOD for you, but some people just have to eat it with other foods, especially SOLUBLE fiber, like bread, potatoes, or rice.

RoyalGossip: Lettuce DOES have fiber, just very little.

thats just the way your digestive system takes it. Unless you've been eating bad lettuce every time.

e coli

Maybe you aren't washing it thoroughly or at all and the pesticides are affecting you.

Well, lettuce doesn't have any fiber. Are you putting anything on the lettuce, like salad dressing that's gone bad?

Lettuce gives off alot of gas, so when you eat it, it can cause stomach cramping, indigestion, upset stomach, diarea, etc. If you plan to eat it, take a gas relief pill with it and see if this helps you! Good luck!

lettuce is mostly water and fiber so in theory it shoudln't be hard to digest at all... however it is easily contaminated with bacteria so if your storing it in some nasty refrigerator or always eating it from the same location maybe you should switch it up and buy it someplace else or clean your frige.... maybe something your putting on it that your allergic to (sesame oil, cheese?)

For some reason, your stomach may be sensitive to lettuce. I really don't like iceberg lettuce myself, and much prefer the darker greens like romaine or spinach. Could be you're eating too fast or not chewing properly. But people do develop allergies to certain foods, so if lettuce bothers you, you might have to give up salads.

People can be allergic to Lettuce just like any other food.

different types of lettuce can actually be really heavy on your system. especially romaine lettuce. try using iceberg lettuce and a fruit and vegetable cleaner. it could be the actual lettuce, what dressing your eating it with or the pesticides that are used to harvest it. try iceberg lettuce. use homemade dressing.. olive oil, lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and washing the lettuce with a pesticide remover.

Lettuce, must be one of the purest veg you can get?
Consider the other things you have eaton?

Are you sure it's the lettuce? Not the dressing you're adding to the lettuce?

One of my classmates went on a diet and ate salads. However, she loaded the salad up with tons and tons of dressing. She wondered why she didn't lose weight? Duh!!!

If you are sure that lettuce gave you indigestion, try to eat Roman lettuce, i heard it is easier to digest than iceberg lettuce, do not eat a lot just a little to see if your stomach can tolerate.
