I stopped eating meat, is this a normal reaction?!


Question: I stopped eating read meat and poultry/fowl a few weeks ago. My diet now mostly consists of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans, tofu, soy, eggs and fish.

Please don't give me a spiel about nutrients because I take a multi-vitamin, and make sure I supplement what I'm not getting out of meat like protein and iron. Like I said I eat soy, beans, eggs, nuts and fish. I get plenty.

But I've been getting really bad stomach/intestinal cramps when I have a bowel movement, and have them at least twice a day. But the cramps are really painful! Can it be from all the fiber?? And my bodys just not used to all the ruffage and fiber and whole foods?

My father was a vegetarian for over 25 years until he passed away at 80 years (he lived a very long and healthy life) My mother is an on -off vegetarian, as am I. Half the month we are meaters and the rest of the month we are vegetarians. This is for our health, weight menagement and overall beauty secret.

Don't listen to those anti-vegetarian people who desperately defend their meat-eating ways by bashing those who they think are "supirior" to them (honestly vegetarians don't think they are supirior, rather more delicate people).

You can get just as much a healthy and rich diet from Vegies and fruits as you would on a meat diet. This is scientifically studied and supported. A whole list of world reknown authors, celebrities, actresses, actors, muscians, scientists and nobel prize winners were and are vegetarians including Orlando Bloom, Pamela Anderson Lee, Shania Twain, Van Gogh, Carrie Underwood, Paul Mccartney, Alec Baldwin, Alicia Silverstone, Alyssa Milano, Anne Hathaway, Benjamin Franklin, Dan Castellaneta Voice (Homer Simpson), David Duchovny, Dre Rapper (Outkast), Jerry Seinfeld, John & Yoko Lennon, Jude Law, Josh Hartnett, Lauren Bush, Leonardo da Vinci, Liv Tyler, Michael J. Fox, Missy Higgins, Natalie Portman

So you see, if these people are perfectly healthy, you would think you would stand a chance of being 'normal'

I am a veggitarian too, and when I completely gave up meat, for the first few weeks, I noticed my body was ajusting. I made a pretty sudden shift from being a complete meat eater, to no meat at all. Your body is probably just ajusting, but if that continues for more than a few weeks after your shift, go see a doctor because something could be wrong. Also, if you are trying a bunch of new alternatives to meat, your body may not be used to those types of food, and it will just take a while for your body to recognize that as food. It shouldn't last much longer though

I think it is jst b/c you stop eating meat all of a sudden and your body isnt used to it so it may take a while for your stomach to adjust.:-)

when i first became a vegetarian in 6th grade i don't think my stomach or body had any problems.

I don't believe that it has anything to do with the lack of meat you're eating. I'm a new vegetarian and I haven't had any problems. I believe it could be all the fiber like you are guessing. Fiber affects your digestive and other systems. Are you eating all organic??? There are lots of things wrong with the food produced in super markets that I won't begin to get into. Lets just say that producers of food put chemicals and additives into food that can cause illness and all sorts of problems to make you spend more money on things like food, diets supplements, health care, and so on. Use a food piramid and ensure that you are eating the correct amount of each food group, of course paying less attention to the protein. You may be overcompensating for the protein. There is protein in everything you eat and the average person is eating too much protein by adding meats and other sources of protein. Check with a dietician that may specialize in vegetarian eating to helo guide you into the correct daily diet for you!!! Hope any of this info has helped you!!!

if you r not feeling very well with your stomach maybe you can eat meat mix with veggies. maybe your stomach is not so suitable for so many vegetables.

Keep eating the fish and eggs. Cut out the soy and beans. Soy is poison and will mess up your hormones. Beans often cause gastrointestinal distress and are not a good source of protein. Beans are usually poisonous unless cooked.

Fruits & vegetables are of course good for you. Some scientists have issues about grains, but whole grains are definitely healthier than refined starches.

If you eat regular potatoes, stop and switch to sweet potatoes or yams.

Check out the paleo diet. It is heavy on meat but if you eat fish and eggs you can probably follow it somewhat.

Fiber, as far as I know, is very good for your intestines and digestion...
