Why are brussel sprouts regarded as disgusting?!
Answers: really, i don't no... Is there a story or myth etc that criticizes them...
because very few people cook them properly. the outside couple of layers of leaves are very bitter and should be removed and many people overcook them
As they smell and taste like bad breathe!
I have no idea either but me, I love brussel sprouts, they're better than peas.
No, no story. I'd say 90% of people hate them, that's why. You have to acquire a taste for them and most people don't want to try them again after the first time. Poor old "brussel sprout" its been name called for years. It's a wonder they are still grown. I like them (but only with butter) but don't buy them as I am the only one in my family who will eat them.
Healthy = nasty.
That's the mentality of the developed world.
Sprouts rule when prepared with a light cheese sauce.
I like 'em... maybe most people don't know how to cook them right... or they were "force fed" brussel sprouts when they were kids and now hate them as adults
They contain a chemical which is released when they are attacked by insects. This chemical makes them taste bad so when an insects eats on the plant it tastes foul and the insect will stop. Unfortunelly there is a human gene some of us have that also makes us sensitised to this chemical and makes them taste disgusting. Then they are picked they release this chemical....
They smell bad, taste bad, look ugly and make you trump voraciously.
Clearly you have never eaten them or you would know. :)
Actually, they aren't too bad if they are prepared properly, but most often they are over-cooked and soaked in butter. They can have a very strong and unpleasant flavor/aroma.
Because most people over cook them and they do become disgusting. I have always loved brussel sprouts. Maybe it was because my grandmother lived with us. She made all kind of veggies and to this day there isn't a veggie I won't eat.
That reminds me, i really must put mine on to boil this weekend ready for Christmas.
they need boiling for a minimum of 3 weeks.
Apparently, not everyone has the same genotype for tasting bitter substances. Some people who avoid certain vegetables they perceive as bitter possess the sensitive variety of the taste receptor gene named TAS2R.
because they taste disgusting....try some
