A question for Christian Vegans was Jesus wrong to feed the 5k with loaves and fishes?!

Question: It isn't particularly meant to be a serious question. I only asked as it came to my mind answering another question.
I shall be upfront with you for those who do not know me - I am agnostic and I am also an omnivore. I have no value judgement on the question myself, so feel free to answer it, buts lets get over the name calling before it starts.

Well you plainly have a high opinion of yourself.

Why did you ask the question of us oiks if you were not serious, other than to let us know that it just came into your lofty mind unaided?

And thank you indeed for being up front with those who do not know you. What makes you think anyone knows you? If you'd actually had anything going for you wouldn't be on this website would you?

As to your question I'm not going to dignify if with a reply. Suffice it to say that I'm neither Christian nor vegan.

I'm not into name calling, this is just my standard reply to pretentious prats, so do take it personally..

I'm sure Ashley would say it's immoral & that Jesus was a moron.

does transubstantiation mean that you are breaking your diet when you take communion? (assuming that it is vegan wine and bread before hand)

No, I do not think Jesus was wrong to feed the fish and bread to the crowd. If anything, he would have been wrong to waste the fish, as they were already dead and had been caught for the purpose of being eaten.

In my opinion, Vegan philsophy actually goes against Christian teachings. Christianity teaches us that the eating of meat has been approved by God. We are taught that a wide variety animals were put on this earth to be eaten by mankind.

As a Christian, I am also an omnivore.

While I do respect the right to choose one's own diet, from a religious standpoint, I am not sure that veganism meshes well with Christianity.

The human body requires nutrients found in meat and dairy products. I have heard of to many vegans and vegetarians who suffer from severe malnuitrition and otehr serious health problems for me to change my diet. I am an omnivore by choice, but I also believe that Christians were meant to be omnivorous, based on the teachings of the Bible.

And can anyone really claim to be truly vegan? After all, your mother's milk is the first thing you ever ate.

This is not dissimilar from asking a vegetarian if you were starving to death and were presented with steak, would you eat it?

As for Christianity, they have a nice habit of picking and choosing which parts they wish to follow (ie Bible says slavery is OK, as is stoning to death people who mix their crops), so I dare say that they will choose to follow or not follow as fits with what suits them best.

oooooooooooooooooohhhhh

i sense unrest will ensue.......

perhaps he should have gotten some tofu instead

Wow, great question!!!

No, Jesus was not wrong for feeding the 5k with loaves and fishes. This is what the people ate during that era. I know in the Old Testament Daniel had somewhat of a vegetarian stage in his life but in this case, Jesus was giving the people much needed norishment.

Think of it this way, if every thing burned in your house and in the area that encompasses you house for 10 miles (car included) and all you had was a can of tuna fish, wouldn't you eat it if you were starving (vegan or not)?

one of the few good bits of the NT parables. Preach and teach but your duty in this world is to feed the hungry and starving first. Bread b4 bibles. I do not really believe that jeshua actually raised the dead or cured the cripples or the lepers. It's the message that matters, same as forgiving your enemies in extremis or comforting the thief on the cross with the message that's its never too late to change.

No, I think he was diet conscious but felt it right to provide them with some nurtitious food, all that was missing was the chips and mushy peas.

"Actually, the fish Jesus was referring to was a type of seaweed. Meat eaters have influenced the translation of the bible over the years to try and hide their guilt. I can assure you that Jesus would never kill a fish. Jesus was a good man who loved all living creatures."

SEAWEED?!?!

And no us "meat eaters" havent translated the bible..

You're crazy.

And in response to your answer. No

I have been a christian all my life and he didn't give then seaweed? BULLSHIT!

Obviously, if Jesus really did feed these 5,000 with fish and bread, he was not wrong to do so. As a vegan, I do not believe that starving people eating natural meat, naturally caught is wrong in any way. People need to understand that veganism as you know it is a modern concept, born partially out of the exploitative and usually torturous treatment of so-called "food animals", and the fact that, as an industrialized nation, we have the ability to abstain from killing for our dietary pleasure.

People have this vision of vegans as being a flag-waving, anarchist army, out for the destruction of everyone who accidentally trampled an insect under foot. This is not the case. I am vegan because I do not wish to participate in the systematic torture and slaughter of billions of sentient creatures, not because I believe that a goat farmer in Ethiopia is evil for eating the only food he has access to.

If Jesus really did feed 5,000 hungry people, I certainly don't expect him to have popped on down to his local Whole Foods to pick up a dozen cases of veggie burgers and tofu dogs.

Was it wrong for Adam and Eve to be vegetarians in the Garden of Eden?

I've heard that God only allowed people to eat meat after the flood, since there was no more vegetation.

I've heard that Jesus was a meat-eater and that all vegetarians are going to Hell for disobeying the Lord's will.

I've heard way too many theories on this subject. I think we should all accept the fact that none of us were there, and we don't really know what happened.

As for it being right or wrong to feed 5,000 people. No, it's not wrong to feed the starving. Could Jesus have come up with some beans and rice... maybe. But the fact that starving people were fed is what's important.

so Ashley the fisherman Peter one of the first disciples was actually a seaweed catcher then was he? What did he do go out in the early morning so he could sneek up on the seaweed then snare it with the nets clearly illustrated in the promotional brchure called the Bible. Let face it religion is just a multi level marketing scheme go forth and recruit 12 disciples then another 12 LOL the ultimate MLM.

Actually, the fish Jesus was referring to was a type of seaweed. Meat eaters have influenced the translation of the bible over the years to try and hide their guilt. I can assure you that Jesus would never kill a fish. Jesus was a good man who loved all living creatures.
