Vegetarian question...?!
Answers: I have not eaten any meat or fish [including gelatin and ramen noodles and any type of thing that MIGHT contain or have touched meat] since february 15 so about 9 months...i am thinking of taking a break for one day and just be pescetarian [eating fish but no other meat]...by making doing this, would it be seriously breaking the vow to be a vegetarian or to many do this every few months or so?
No, there's nothing wrong with breaking it for one day. It's definitely better than not being vegetarian at all. Many people will tell you "there's no point being vegetarian if you don't do it properly" and all that, but the truth is that it is a personal decision and you should do what feels right for you. If you want to eat fish one day every three months, go ahead. You have accomplished a lot for 9 months, and there's no reason you must go as far as everyone else. Vegetarianism is a diet, not a worker's union where you hurt everyone else if you cheat.
I do eat fish for medical reasons, but if you are going to 'have a break' why the heck did you become vegetarian in the first place? You really ought to think about that seriously/ If you are not fully committed I would say leave it out because chopping and changing may just muck up your metabolism. It is up to you but...?
well to most vegetarians it would be and to me it would of bee when i was a vegitarian but its your own descision...

I just hate it when people claim to be vegetarian but i see them eating animals
this is supposed to be something that you are committed too, that you are passionate about, and to ruin it over one day seems pointless

Well to a true life long Vegetarian it wouldn't be right...But dang it's your life , your body and your decision! Do what feels right for you and don't worry about what others think or do :-)

there are many varieties of being vegetarian, i would research what one you really want to be...there are some that do not eat meat or chicken, some eat only fish some add milk and cheese and fish. they usually choose which way they want to go to add their protein.. after i researched this issue, i eat dairy and fish, and i feel it is ok to goof off once in a while, after all, our bodies were raised with meats, chicken and fish, and we were ok and i also believe there is NO law saying one cannot adjust our own meals and still remain faith full to our vows, be flexible and know that whatever you choose is good for you... take care and be good to yourself...
Every few months? Not a big deal. The rules are so unattainable in most cases vegers break them without even knowing it.
It comes down to this: What's more important? Eating the way you want or the opinions of complete strangers?
There is no hell you will goto if you break your vegetarian vow, it is your diet and your right of choice if you want to break it. Hardcore vegetarian will see you as the devil but at the end of the day its got bugger all to so with them. I don't personally see anything wrong with it. Most vegetarians at one point in there life ate meat.
Michael H: Thankyou, but you know sometimes people do breakdown time to time, but to be honest eating fish once in a blue moon is better than eating it like everyday and that was the point I was indirectly trying to say.
Think of it this way- Is it a lifestyle change? or is it just a phase in your life?
Think of this for example...someone likes religion..
they attend church once in a while- that just means they enjoy doing this once in a while...
someone wanted to make a lifestyle change becomes a NUN
now can that Nun take a break and have sex one day out of a year? or would she no longer be considered a nun?
So ask yourself...are you just someone who tries not to eat meat-but is not a vegetarian..
or did you make a lifestyle change and are a vegetarian?
Either way it doesn't matter what you do- but it's not right or correct to keep a label on yourself that you don't live up too. Just like a Nun would get her label taken away if she took a "break"
Eat whatever you want. But why is the word "vegetarian" so important to hang on to when you eat animals? What does the word do for you?
it's your decision. i wouldn't do it again (i ate fish once, and my stomach got so mad at me, i puked). but it's not about being perfect, just doing what you can to help animals. you should decide, though i advise against it.
Well, you wouldn't be a vegetarian but you are free to do what you like, just steer clear of the word vegetarian please.
The definition is: Someone who does not eat meat, fish, poultry nor slaughter by-products
There is no caveat about "when its convenient" or " most of the time"
I'm sure your meat reduction diet will be good for you, as well as good for animals and the environment, but its not veggie
Drutazo is right when s/he says "Most vegetarians at one point in there life ate meat."...that was BEFORE they called themselves vegetarians.
edit....and i also agree that eating it once in a while is much better than eating it every day, no doubt.
There is no vegetarian vow to break.
You just won't be vegetarian if you eat fish, even if it's only once a year.
