How would you describe the taste of wheat meat/seitan to my husband, an avid meat eater?!
I've had plenty of soy-based meat substitutes, but never wheat-based ones, so I don't know what to tell him. Can you help me out by describing the taste and texture? Any reviews from non-vegetarians would be especially helpful.
Answers: My husband and I are going to a vegetarian restaurant later today, and we previewed the menu online. My husband said that many of the dishes sounded like they might be good, except for the fact that they include "wheat-meat."

It's hard to describe the taste, as it depends on what it's seasoned with. And the texture can depend on the restaurant. If the places you go to make their own seitan, one place may make it differently from another.
The wheat meat I make (yeah, I make my own seitan) is fairly chewy and a bit juicy. Unless the restaurant does it really well, he probably won't mistake it for meat, but if they flavor it well, he may like it. I've been vegan since 2002, and I can tell the difference, but I've learned to like it.
Just let him try it and make his own mind up.
have him try it and he can decide.
Like chewy, meaty dough. Good when seasoned & flavored.
