Exactly what is so wrong about eating meat?!

Question: Seriously. Thanks for your answers :)

Answers: Seriously. Thanks for your answers :)

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with eating meat. I do eat it occassionally.

However, several of the problems with meat we have now are...
The way animals are mass produced and slaughtered. They are being kept in inhumane conditions, pumped full of hormones and antibiotics, and many times killed in a cruel fashion. It is suggested that we are seeing an increase of antibiotic resistant diseases and our children reaching puberty at younger ages due to this.
There is the environment factor, as someone mentioned above with the cattle.
I can't speak for the rest of the world, but Americans consume WAY too much meat. There is no need to have a triple cheeseburger...that's more than a daily serving of meat, yet many in this country stuff their faces with that type of fare day in and day out.
Too much or certain meat consumption has been linked to certain health issues....such as processed meats and colon cancer.

If we could go back to having to raise, slaughter, clean, and prepare our own meat....I think it would be much better. Seriously doubt it will happen any time soon though.

If eating steak was good enough for Jesus, then it's good enough for me, too.

nothing
it's perfectly fine
and it contains a good amount of protein

Nothing. That's whatwe have those pointy teeth (canines) for!

It is cruel to kill animals to satisfy the palate.

if some one has a protien allergy it would be bad but for the rest of us, a balanced diet is best

It's a matter of choice.

I refuse to eat animals because I respect life too much and I know it isn't necessary for health.

If other people want to eat meat that's up to them. As long they leave me alone, I don't bother them.

I hate it when people say they are vegetarian and eat animals anyway. I take that as an insult to my personal beliefs and I wish they would use other words to describe themselves.

It's a personal choice. To some people it's terribly wrong and they don't understand why you think it's no big deal. They see it as murder, it's almost like the pro life vs. pro choice debate. Both sides think they're right and you can debate with them for all eternity, they're not going to change their minds.
I don't see a problem with eating meat personally, but I try to respect other people's views and not argue with them about it.

If lovin meat is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Uhhh, that didn't come out right, did it?

When I was a vegetarian one of the major reasons was environmental. Cattle grazed on 10 acre of land can feed the same amount of people as vegetables grown on one acre. It's more efficient in terms of energy and space usage to be a vegetarian.

Oh man, there's nothing like a good, bloody-rare steak...mmmmmmmm

absolutely nothing!

its just a matter of personal choice

personally i think a big slab of dead animal flesh grilled on an open flame is delicious! mmmmm...meat!

yea! take that!!!

Here is my thing, whether you believe that god created us, or it occurred naturally through evolution, NATURE IS RUTHLESS, don't believe me? Watch the discovery channel for a while.

We simply have far superior intellect to other animals, yes.... biologically, we are animals just like any other animal. A bear would not hesitate the maul the sh*t out of you, a starving Lion would not hesitate to tackle you down and eat you for survival.

Plain and simple, nature is survival of the fittest, until Cows out smart us and no longer allow us to use them, by whatever means.... we win. If you took away ALL TECHNOLOGY, if all of society failed all-together, where there were no jobs, no civilization. The strongest humans would survive, the rest would die. I imagine there would be few to no "vegetarians" left in this case, and I do not mean they would die because they are weak, they would either eat what is available, meat or not, or starve. Humans are scientifically Omnivores.

Some animals are Carnivores, some animals are Herbivores, but it is BASED ON THEIR ENVIRONMENT. Humans are omnivores, we only CHOOSE to not eat meat. We are not supposed to not eat meat, its just a choice some people make.

People can make that choice because of humans position on earth, they can only eat veggie stuff because of our luxury of choice of whatever ample amount of food we have. But I imagine if a vegetarian had not eaten in two weeks, and they had the opportunity to choose between dying of starvation, or eating a cheeseburger, only a fool would die instead of eating.

There is no other animal on the planet that kills just for fun... humans hunt for the hell of it. That is not what I am talking about.

All other animals kill for food, to protect their young, or to defend themselves. You would do the same in a life or death situation.

hi zilla-i vote for you-on the serious side eating meat is necessary for both the brain to develop and for it to continue functioning properly-the long term studies are in on this one-bottom line-children raised on a strict vegetarian diet have on average a 20 to 30 point iq drop-and for adults on a strict vegetarian diet over the long term they have a similar iq drop-of course the amount of meat protein needed to keep this from happening isnt much------just my thoughts-smile and enjoy the night

Hi Zilla, Laz's Mouse here-I love protein in all forms, Laz makes sure I get plenty (rotflmyao-laz, that tickles!)-we're having Rock Cornish game hen tonight, with wild rice-just as a way to prevent Alzheimer's, you understand....p&l

I don't want to gain any pleasure from something else's pain. Modern day factory farming is quite frankly disgusting and that's where 90% of meat comes from... they don't bring up animals, they 'grow' them and care more about money than they do the animal's welfare. Pigs are more intelligent than dogs and I know I'd never let my dog endure such an existence so I won't be the reason for a pig or any other animal to have to do so.

I think this pretty much somes up what's wrong about eating modern meat (I actually have more respect for hunters than I do factory farmed meat eaters).

And to anyone who says that a veg diet is unhealthy... nearly the entire population of india have been vegetarian as well as millions of buddhists over the centuries too and they seem to be doing fine.

Nothing........
Great, now I'm hungry.
What do reptiles taste like?

I don't judge anyone for eating meat. I've always had an aversion to it. If I eat meat it has to be burned to a crisp. I really don't like it. I couldn't kill an animal to feed myself. But, that's just me, the way I was born.

I love being vegetarian, and no cruelty to animals! There are a lot of excellent healthy alternatives out there, people would be surprised,I think!

Nothing. Humans are animals after all, and animals eat other animals. That's just the natural way of things.

nothing. The bloodier the better. YUM

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I know red meat and pork are harder to digest than fish and fowl, but other than that, I don't think it's that bad for you. However, I don't know how humanely the animals are treated before they are killed. That's one reason I try to buy cage free eggs and chicken. At least I know they lived as they were meant to live. I'm sure people will disagree with me, but it's also not logical to keep farm animals as pets. I guess I have this attitude since I grew up in farm country.

For me, it's just not food. Animals don't exist to please our whims. Animal agriculture is one of the worst environmental offenders of any industry in the world. And there's ample evidence that, not only can we thrive on a plant-based diet, animal foods actually contribute to disease processes. All in all, I can't really find a good reason why I would want to eat dead flesh.

Vegetarianism is more environmentally friendly, ecologically friendly, body friendly, and animal friendly. If you need convincing, go to http://goveg.com/. I'm not saying you need to "convert", but please do consider it.

Please rate my answer as the best if it was helpful. Thank you!

It's not nice.

If you do not value innocence or kindness, we just happen to think differently.

*sigh*

1) The way the animals are raised--in horribly cramped conditions, with hormones and antibiotics. Then the way they are trucked long miles without respite in all sorts of weather conditions and slaughtered--sometimes dying piece by piece.

2) The environmental degradation wreaked by animal industries--from water pollution to global warming to waste of resources. Both the U.N. and U.S. EPA have warned of the devastation wrought by meat production.

3) Health. The most common cause of death in the U.S. is heart disease. Animal fat and protein clog the arteries. Excess protein, especially animal protein (this includes dairy and eggs) causes calcium loss from the bones.

Roughly 70 percent of the grains grown in the U.S. go to feed animals that become your food, an incredible waste. I'm not going to pretend that if people went vegetarian or even vegan it would solve world hunger because THAT is an issue of making sure the hungry get the food. But it's still staggering to think about.

i don't get it either. a cow is practically a plant, anyway, so what's the difference.

who's to say a plant doesn't feel pain?

What is so wrong about not wanting to eat it?

It's unessecary killing I can avoid.....I can get all my vitamins and minerals from plant sources...very easily too....that's what makes it unnesesary in my eyes at least.

It's unhealthy COMPARED to veggies. Do you understand what I'm saying? Why eat something that contains alot of fat and colesteral when you CAN eat something that contains virtually no fat no not a drop of colesteral?

MANY studies have shown that eating a healthy vegetarian diet LOWERS your NORMAL risk of getting certain cancers..colon cancer... and other ailments..such as high colesteral. If you have an increased risk for those things..eating a vegetarian diet can do wonders for lowering your risk of getting those things.

It is a great way to help out with the environment. Explain........a normal person contributes to CO 2 production by...the energy used to grow the crops to feed the animals(tractor gas..planes or tractor gas to spread the pesticides..and so on)...the energy used to house the animals...the energy used to take the animals to the slauterhouse...the energy used to kill the animals...the energy used to package the meat(don't forget they use all parts of the animal..so many different products have to be packaged in this stage...a pig..pig ears...bacon..ham and so on)...the energy used to transport the meat to the stores. A vegetarian contributes to the energy used to grow the crops.. transport the crops to the warehouse(to be cleaned)..and the energy to package the crops..and the energy used to get the crops to the store. That's alot of energy one saves by eating only veggies. IF you eat locally grown veggies one can cut down on even more of the energy. That's just one of the ways too.

theonly biblical reuirement to eating meat was then not eating the blood with the animal andsomething that was what we would call today road kill. meaning it was dead by something or someone before.. also in leviticus their were foods that were said to be unclean meaning for the most part these animals were carnivores or were animals that cleaned up the refuse that other animals left..
do i need to be specific when i say refuse,, as in bathroom droppings?
ok ???? but today because of the high risk of disease animals are suffering from it makes it even more dangerous for us to consume their flesh,, . noone needs to believe what i say ok >>?? check with any goverment agency and see if their is any animal today that is not infected with some sort of cnacerous growth?. YES I KNOW TODAY their are sooo many coverups dealing with this so u may not get the right information , i know u are hearing about all the meat recals though somenella posioning and all . one company went out of buisness completely because of this,, . ok all animals have a short intestine so when they eat a meal it is eliminated the same day . humans have a short intestine and a large intestine ,, when we eat meat it can take days to get through the colon thus rotting before it gets eliminated ,
fish in the seas al lhave cancerous sells because of the high mercury that gets dumped into the ocean along with other industrial wastes.. . sorry dont mean to be gross but if u look at what all is done in the slaughter houses to these poor animals they are half crazed before they are slaughtered / i have seen the videos taken , im sure if u looked u could find a few online .. ycch its soooooo gross, and these places that slaughter the animals are so filthy too at times road kill also gets thrown in as well as animals that have been euthanized by animal control , which u will never here about directly !! .. do u actually think their are enough goverment in spectors to look at all that is going on>>??.
ok you take this into consideration and at least slow down your flesh intake and dont eat foods that are scavengers , yes they taste good but they will leave behind a big expence in later years,, .
i know most folks are creatures of habit too . they just are not willing to listen to reason . christians to sadly refuse to listen to instructions thinking they are free ,,
fre from what fre from the cancer u intake when u eat the dead flesh of animals?? oh boy humans sometimes we have to suffer because we be toooooo hard headed to listen ,, believe it,, or not ! bro. muray

Veg*ns say its wrong to kill an animal to eat.

I say those brown bears need to stick just to fruit and berries.

This is what's wrong:
