Depending on your eating habits it may help or it may make no difference whatsoever. I think it's important to realize the enlightened path a vegan/vegetarian walks and to not get caught up if it helps with vanity. But if it is just a curiosity of yours that is my answer, it may help it may not. Most likely it will help though, especially if you combine it with some exercise. It all comes down to WHAT you eat and EXERCISE.

Long live PETA lol =D

If you're an actual vegan(no dairy, eggs, meat, poultry) You'll lose a lot of weight. Dairy is full of fat, meat is full of cholesterol, and even though eggs and poultry are low in fat and cholesterol, they still can't hold a candle to tofu. I eat a lot of tofu now a days because my girlfriend is a vegan, so i'm learning to cook for her. It's great. Just make sure to eat a wide assortment of foods so you still get all your nutrient intake.

yeah i lost 5 pounds.

maybe if you recently just became a vegan.. otherwise your body gets used to the stuff you eat.

well it all depends on what you eat as a vegetarian, such as, if you eat candy, then no, but if you only eat salads all day then you will lose some, but if you eat salads, a little meat here and there, drink milk and water, and excerise, you will be in perfect shape

A good nutritious vegan diet is one of the best there is but don't look on it as a way to lose weight. You should be eating things like nuts and seeds and avocado's which I'm sure you know are really high in fat but are also v. nutritious.
I have known lots of vegans and only one was overweight, and you could tell that it was her body type. if you are a healthy vegan your body will probably settle at e weight that is really right for it.

yea being vegan can help you lose weight.
it helps to eliminate all of that junky food and meat.
but it is still possible to overeat.

The quick answer: No.

Even vegans/vegetarians can be overweight and gain weight, most especially with the growing amount of preprocessed foods created specifically for those people. Eating deep fried tofu with fried rice and french fries five nights a week is sticking to a non-meat diet, but it is nutritionally very unbalanced (and will make you sick).

Non meat eaters are more likely to gravitate towards a healthier lifestyle because we are somewhat forced to create meals that have a wider range of different foods as well as a lot of vegetables (where the bulk of the meals come from). This is no different from meat eaters that eat right.

The key is really moderation and balanced meals, although saving lives at the same time never hurt either! :D

It could. But, basically, no. Weight has to do with a general overall health, exercise, etc. You can eat whatever you want and be thin as long as you exercise enough. Doesn't mean you'll be healthy -- healthy is more than fit and thin. "Metabolism" is your answer to being fat or thin. Of course you can just eat less, but that's not healthy.

No, eating less calories than you burn will make you lose weight.

well, it definitely could... but that still depends on what you eat.
my friend lost a lot of weight but I, on the other hand, stayed the same weight.

so it depends, going vegan doesn't necessarily mean you'll lose weight.

I would love to say "yes, absolutely", but it depends a lot on how you ate before you became a vegan. When I became a vegan, I didn't gain or lose an ounce. I was as an omnivore, and still am, 95 pounds. (My cholesterol levels dropped significantly, though, and I do have a lot more energy than I did before.)

My partner, on the other hand, weighed 240 pounds before he became a vegan, and within a year dropped to and stayed at a healthy 175.

That said, it is possible to be a vegan and not have a healthy diet. Don't forget that chocolate chips, potato crisps, and plenty of off-the-shelf biscuits are often vegan. Being a vegan will limit the number of junk foods available to you, which may be the edge you need to kick a junk food habit if you already have one. You'll find yourself preparing more of your own food and eating out less, which will not only save you loads of money, but will gradually steer you toward eating healthier foods. When you prepare your own foods, you'll be able to choose which ingredients go into those foods. You can do things like cook with grapeseed oil, and cut down the amount of sugar or salt in a recipe. And of course, not eating meat will really reduce the amount of fat and calories you consume.

Good luck, eh!
