I am thinking about going vegan and I need to get some information...Any ideas?!

Question: I have been dealing with the idea of going vegan. I was wondering if there are any good websites that you guys can give me to help me out. The only real problem I will have is not eating anymore chicken. Thats all! Please help me! And what are some good vegan foods?
Thanks!

Are you thinking about going vegetarian AND vegan? Vegan is absolutely NO dairy products or any foods that have dairy in them (like many baked goods, cheeses, etc.). Vegetarian is, of course, eating no meat or meat/animal by-products. That's a double whammy trying totally give up both meat AND dairy at the same time. I'd suggest you start with vegetarian (assuming you aren't already, since you mentioned having to give up chicken), then move on to becoming vegan as well. The meat part won't be so hard. Make sure you take daily supplements (as we all should), eat beans (many types in many different ways.. like chili), nuts, hummus, etc. And if you want meat-like products without having the meat, there's a large selection of soy-protein products. I LOVE the Boca Sausage... either on a roll, or with onions and peppers, and a few other ways I've concocted (and I'm not vegetarian). There are veggie hot dogs, breakfast sausage, lots of varieties of veggie burgers.

Good Luck!

There are a lot of great websites out there for Vegans:

http://www.goveg.com/
http://www.veganwolf.com/

for a start!

The Vegan Society has a good website. Change your diet gently in your own time, and don't beat yourself up about an occasional lapse.
Vitamin B12 is the most important one to watch, it's mostly in animal-based foods.
You can make a yummy fake chicken out of tofu - freeze it then thaw it, when it will take on a chicken-y texture; squeeze it dry, marinate it in soy sauce and a bit of olive oil, fry it with mushrooms and serve it with wholemeal pasta.
Must go, I've made meself hungry, lol!

goveg.com
peta.com which isn't as good

There simply is no vegan substitute for a wonderfully roasted chicken basting on the spit with it's own juices and perhaps stuffed. Poultry is such a wonderfully healthy food .. .

You might check out via Google "Flexitarian Diets" or "flexitarian" before you take up the immense cross of a complicated, expensive, unhealthy socially isolative and compulsive lifestyle as veganism..
