You're probably thinking of black salt. It does have a strong eggy flavor because of the presence of sodium sulfide. This hydrolyzes in water to release traces of hydrogen sulfide gas. This gas is also produced by rotting egg whites, but in much higher quantities. You can get it in some Indian groceries. I wasn't aware that the Koreans used it as well.

Another trace byproduct of its reaction with water is sodium hydroxide, which gives it an alkaline, soapy feel.
You can accelerate the reaction by adding an acid like vinegar.

so God is Korean?

That is not salt.
It is MSG!

When did they start putting Meat in salt? What has this world come to? Fooling people all the time!

Are you thinking of black salt?

mortons - its the bestest!

I think it's black salt. My wife's Indian they used in certain things--yeah, it has a kind of "sulphur" taste that might remind you of eggs.

I don't know anything about Korean food, but maybe they use the same thing.
