You're so cute Rockmum!! There you go putting a smile on my face again.

It's funny that you asked this question because that's what my sister in law used to do when she turned veggie. Needless to say she went back to eating meat real soon. LOL!

When I stopped eating meat, I did it for health reasons, not because of the animals. I used to work at a deli at the time, so you can imagine it wasn't easy for me. So yes I used to eat a slice or two once in a while. I did it out in the open though. I didn't care if people saw me.

As time went by, I abstained more and more from eating meat. Finally I stopped missing the taste of meat completely.
Right now not only I don't miss it, but I know I couldn't bring my self to even taste it. The idea of eating meat seems so unnatural to me. I think I would vomit if I was to even try one piece. I won't eat anything fried or cooked in the same oil as meat, I won't eat pepperoni pizza and pick out the pepperoni, because it still smells like it, and I never make exceptions on holidays, no matter how much people may ask me to. Meat is not food for me anymore. And the more I find out about the way animals are treated in the process, the more I understand why people become vegetarian.

Isn't that interesting? I grew up on eating meat, and right now the idea seems appalling to me. Now I know I would never find fruit and veggies appalling, no matter how long I went without eating them. That's what made me believe that we're not really meant to eat meat... I could be wrong, but that 's how it feels for me right now.

Don't feel bad for eating a little piece of meat. You 've done really well, and you should be proud. You haven't felt in your heart yet that meat is not right for you, that's why you still miss the taste. Going vegetarian is not easy. And it may not be what you want to do for the rest of your life. Or maybe it is. You 'll figure it out on your own soon enough.

However, even if you go without eating meat for a few weeks, or months, it'll be really good for your health. It's called fasting, and all cultures do it a few times a year, to stay healthy. But you can't eat the potatoes that roasted with the meat you naughty girl!!! Do it right for a little while, and you'll see how your body starts to detoxify from all the meat toxins.
Be strict for a little while, as long as you can, one week, one month, whatever. But be strict, cause only then you'll see the benefits of it. Then you can decide what you want to do.

Good luck! I'm very proud of you Rockmummy!!!
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo...

I we did, we wouldn't be vegetarians.

LOL, my brother used to then starting out, it would get me into no end of trouble.

Mum would say ok don't eat any of the sliced ham we're saving it. Then later in the day it would be ok, I told you not to eat any of the ham...... But in the end it would turn out to be my brother.

Nothing wrong with that!!!

Come back to meat!!!!
Your missing out on Maccas!!!!

nope.
and I hope it STAYS this way.

if u have real reasons for being a vegetarian or vegan, then u shouldnt be tempted by meat or the sight/smell of it- u should be vegetarian by choice; if ur forcing it on urself, then there really is no reason to be vegetarian- even for health, u can still eat meat, just in moderation

i ate meat until i was about 7 and then i was grossed out of it and although i like the smell of bbqs and vegetarian hot dogs, i dont want to eat meat because i have a problem with the meat being meat.... if i didnt have a problem with the meat being meat, i wouldnt be vegetarian...

if vegetarian for religious reasons, then ppl should understand that its no good being vegetarian if u dont really believe the reasons for which u should be

i hope u understand that u shouldnt be forced to be vegetarian... u dont have to be vegetarian... just eat a mostly vegetarian diet but recognize the fact that u do like meat- there is nothing wrong with that- i hav a problem, but u dont hav to and i dont think u should hav to

good eating!

I agree with karen.
There's really no point in saying your vegetarian if you just sneak meat.I mean that 's not helping the animals really...so what's the point in saying you are?I'm glad that your attempting to become one though.

no i have never really liked it in the first place.

Nob, obviously I didn't turn to be a Vegan for taste reason.
I'm a philosophy-vegan.

Don't say I didn't warn you about Vegetarians!! :)
You shouldn't eat meat blah blah blah!!!! Yawn!!

I don't eat meat, but occasionally will have a bite of my man's lasagne or whatever. Don't really worry me.
Don't worry, because by eating that you put food on a farmers table.

Watch them crucify me!!! I got 12 thumbs down last time!!!

Nope.

I am sure you are not the only one who "feel off the wagon" though. I never liked the taste of meat so...I had an advantage to that. I say you are fine. Humans in general aren't perfect. We mess up from time to time...and sometimes we mess things up so bad we have no idea where to start. If you want to be a veg..then keep going.

For future situations like this...I would make sure you had a veggie burger or bar b que tofu available before hand so you are less tempted to eat the real thing. You also don't feel left out this way too.

No I never did but I got accused of because of some freaken meat eater sneaking up and putting a piece of pork on my plate during a holiday celebration! Were You the sneaker that did that? I know why he choose pork.. cause I was a 7th day adventist at the time! Well the only reason he was at the party was because he was one of the cleaners! I never really cared for the taste of meat in the first place! However I stopped eating meat more because of the cost of it! I don't think people that become vegetarians care for the taste of meat at all except maybe a few! I remain vegetarian because it's healthier for me! also I found that I can't stand the sight of blood!

Absolutely not. I don't abstain for meat because someone's watching me. Well, I guess I kind of do. In my own head I've got my conscience with its eye on me, I've got brown-eyed cows, quirky little piggies, and sweet, silly chickens staring at me with grateful eyes, and I've got Mother Nature ready to cluck her tongue at me if I go disrespecting my fortune by polluting this body and this life that I am so lucky to have by putting a bunch of unhealthy crap in my mouth.

Many vegetarians DO stop eating meat for health reasons in addition to animal cruelty reasons or religious reasons or whatever reasons they might have. I stopped eating for health reasons and then opened my eyes to how awful the meat industry is. Knowing how terribly wrong it is to support such abuse keeps me from ever eating meat on purpose. I think you should just forget your slip up and keep up your good work!

No. But if I wanted to I wouldn't care who was looking. I'm free to make my own decisions, as you are, and responsible for my own decisions.

I haven't ever "snuck" a piece of meat in, I feel that would be wrong to have to sneak it. I also don't judge others who really mean to be a vegetarian and may have a little piece of meat, the way I see it, anyone who cares enough to get out of the constant meat eating lifestyle and become at least mostly veg. is a good person, because they care enough to try to make a difference (if it is animal rights/welfare that they are veg. for). I don't think there is anything wrong with it if they have done it once or even twice a year, sometimes people are not strong enough and may give in to their cravings, and if they never "preach" about it going veg. to others because then they would be a hypocrite.

No. I don't like it, the taste and smell are disgusting to me.

I don't eat meat because I don't like the idea of killing animals. I don't call myself this or that because I think it's going to impress people.

Maybe if somebody was "forced" to stop eating meat for medical reasons or because they want to please someone else, that would be a different matter. Like smoker who says he "quit" but sneaks a cigarette once in a while, etc.

I personally agree with most of these people that means that really aren't a vegetarian. I am starting to be a vegetarian today actually because it is really cruel.

A big thick piece of prime rib all marbled with fat dripping with juices or a whole roast chicken with the skin brown and crusty.
But once in a while I will wander and eat a small piece of vegetable or apple with my pork roast. Or have Fry's with my half pound cheeseburger.

Vegetarian I cant survive on carrots. I need meat.

I will never have this problem.... I eat meat and even though I have cut down I will not stop eating it....mmmmmm just went to a buffet last night and had all kinds of different meat dishes.... mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm

Yeah! I craved it at first but now I could care less if I have it or not, just occasionally. Rock on Mum! You're Normal girl.
If you have to take a once a weeker for a while and then you'll see a difference, or you should.

Not at all. I stiopped eating meat for moral reasons and the first few weeks were diffcult with my family eating meat in front of me, but I can proudly say that I haven't had any meat in 4 years.

No, never. There are plenty of mock meats that do just fine. I've never heard of vegetarians "sneaking meat" ever.

I'm sure a few have done the same. A mindless fanatic and holier than thou smart a** vegan however, will be indignant, and deny it it. After making a smart a** remark of course.

I agree with everyone else.

You are NO vegetarian. We don't generally do it for "health" reasons, we do it because its wrong to slaughter animals just to pass through your body.

Its not common, you're no true vegetarian if you ate meat.

Infact you aren't a vegetarian at all at the moment.

GAH this is annoying
