Vegan children?!
Answers: i am sometimes vegetarian sometimes vegan, sometimes. i am about to have a child and am wondering whether anyone out there raised their children vegan, and how it went, health-wise. i know plenty of vegetarian children, but they tend to eat more dairy than anything else. do your children eat a variety of foods?
My 2 year old is vegan and always has been. She eats a wide variety and loves avocado, bananas, sweet potatoes and black bean tacos. She is always full of energy, so much that I can't sometimes see where it comes from. She has never gotten sick and her pediatrician says she is the healthiest little girl he sees.
If you want any more advice on the subject feel free to email me, or contact from the profile page.
And congratulations on the baby, if it is your first you will soon find there's nothing like having one, if it isn't then you already know that.
i would let them eat meat if i were u. this lady got her child taken away becuz he wasnt getting enough protien in just veggies
I don't have kids, but thought you'd appreciate these photos and stories about vegan kids:

The American Dietetic Association (one of the leading nutrition experts in the U.S.) states: "Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence."
Good luck!
My 3yrld is vegetarian and has been from the start. She does eat some dairy products but not all that much. I feed her a mostly vegan diet and she is a great eater. Her first foods were smooshed bananas and then she went onto avocado and tofu cubes coated in crushed cheerioes.
She still loves avocado. She eat a lot of fresh organic raw fruits and veggies more then anything eles.
i was raised a vegan and never noticed a difference between me and other children
My 3-year-old son has been on a vegetarian diet since March [07] and a vegan diet since June [07].
So far, it has been going great. He can sometimes be a picky eater, but he absolutely loves vegetables and fruits. I think part of it has to do with involving him in my cooking sometimes. I'll let him pull up a chair to the stove and show him how I cook asparagus, broccoli, etc. Everything we used to eat has been substituted with its vegan counterpart, so he can enjoy his once favorite meals and also indulge in treats, such as ice cream, cookies, etc. Get your child excited in their food by being excited about it yourself. :)
In terms of his health, everything looks great. He has not gotten sick or even gotten a cold since being on this new diet. Bowel movements are perfect: approximately 15-30 after every big meal. His last check-up showed he is a very healthy 3-year-old.
Heads up: Should you decide to raise your child on a vegetarian or vegan diet, be weary of who you tell. Anyone can report you to child services if they feel you are jeopardizing your child's health. If you are reported, you would have to provide proof that your child is just fine with medical records and other related documents.
Best wishes :)
i was born as a vegetarian, and i have been trying to become vegan since last week.
i grew up fine as a vegetarian, there are many benefits in being vegetarian. just want you to know its completely safe and healthy.
I have two kids.
Both are vegan from birth.
They started eating foods from 8 months.
Started with steamed root veggies like turnip and those others that get all soft and mushy after steaming. Just ground it up in a suribatchi (serrated bowl).
Our oldest is three and still hardly has any highly processed foods and those would be noodles and other pasta, whole grain crackers, tofu,... Otherwise it's lots of veggies and fruits etc. They LOVE to eat. Never ever had any problems with them being picky at all. In the summer they'll just hang out in the garden eating stuff...
A good book to start with is:
Macrobiotic Pregnancy and Care of the Newborn: By: Michio Kushi and Aveline Kushi
They also have a great book about food for kids:
Macrobiotic Family Favorites
In our family, life revolves around food. As I said we really love it, and eat so many different kinds of things. Chinese, Korea, Japanese, Indian, N. American, Taiwanese.... just so many interesting foods and ingredients out there.
Here's a really helpful hint: If your kids don't like the food you give them, guess what, you need to learn to cook better.
Yup, so many times I hear about kids that won't eat their veggies etc. and when I try that food... wow, it's pretty gross. Some people just cannot cook is seems. But I'm sure they could learn if they really put their mind to it. Also, too many kids eat all kinds of salty sugary and very high flavour foods, so of course when they try some vegetables they literally cannot taste them. The way I was brought up, with salt, gravy, sauces, sugar, syrups, added flavours, etc. etc. I thought vegetables were disgusting. I learnt that it was both due to my parents horrible cooking and my horrible diet that was preventing me from tasting anything beyond the sauces and toppings etc. So, for kids keep it simple, no sauces, no sugar, etc. because they don't need it. Their taste buds are brand new and working perfectly and they can enjoy and really go crazy for stuff that we would think is quite plain or dull flavoured. Well, you get the idea. I say, just look away from N. American food and more to Asia, India, Middle East where they've been doing it for a long time. Forget the veggie dogs and all that crap, go for the real food.
