Vegetables hidden in fruit smoothies.. any recipies??!
My question is.. anyone else have other similar recipies for similar smoothies that hide veggies in them, but you CAN'T TASTE.. only taste the fruit....
I'm also trying to lose weight and I'm seeing this as a very nice potential meal replacer..
Answers: Hey.. so I made an exciting discovery this week. I stayed at a friend of a freind's house and she was preparing supper. I saw her throw frozen bananas into a blender for smoothies and I was like.. "cool I like smoothies." THEN I saw her put green leafy vegetalbes in it. I was like "what the... this person's crazy.." I thought it might be some special thing for her or her baby's nutrition.. but she offered it to us. Not to be rude, I felt I had to try some.. and I DIDN"T TASTE THE KALE OR SPINACH AT ALL!! I only tasted banana and pineapple. YUM!! I HATE veggies and know I desperately need more in my diet.. so I'm VERY excited about this discovery..

That is one of my favorite ways to eat greens! Just made one last night, actually. I usually just throw a little of this and a little of that in, so the proportions are approximate. This one tastes a lot like fruit punch to me:
3/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup soy or other milk
1 handful romaine lettuce (kale, collards, chard, bok choy etc. also work)
1 large handful broccoli slaw or chopped raw broccoli
1 handful baby or matchstick carrots
1 ripe banana with black spots
1 cup frozen mixed berries
1-2 tsp agave nectar or other sweetener (optional)
2 tbsp. brown rice or other protein powder (optional)
8-12 ice cubes
Put the liquids (juice and milk) in the blender first. Add the veggies and optional protein powder, blend to a puree. Then add fruit and optional sweetener and blend again. It should have a nice reddish purple color.
At this point, I usually remove half of the mixture and stick it in the refrigerator for later. (It doesn't keep as well if you add ice first. When you do want to use it, just put it back in the blender and add ice.)
Then, add the ice and blend again.
The key to a really good fruit and veggie smoothie is making sure to add more fruit or fruit juice than veggies. Pineapple juice is a good choice because it's very sweet. Ripe bananas have a very strong flavor that covers up things. Carrots are great to add because they're naturally somewhat sweet. I usually avoid adding spinach because I find the flavor of it is hard to cover, but maybe it's worth another try with pineapple juice, so thanks for the suggestion!
Anyway, have a great day and lots of fun experimenting!
carrots, beets, celery
well, not all vegetables are tasteless by the fruit.
like, you can add broccoli and spinach, and a few other stuff.
but you always want to make sure you add fruit that has a strong taste.
my mom made me one once and added too many vegetables, it tasted so bad!
so make sure you add more fruits, always. and stuff like orange juice or something helps.
apples don't add that much flavor, bananas, strawberries, pinapple, blue/black/rasberries always make it sweet.
experimenting always helps. so feel free
it isn't a bad idea also to add vegatable tablits to your smoothies, and just blend it in.
also a good way to get your medicin without that terrible tast.
MILD GREENS LIKE SPINACH WORK BEST.
Spinach is the 1 I use most. My whole family loves what we call Green Smoothies. In fact so do our dogs ;-}

If you have a problem with Veggies you might try them RAW. There is a huge difference in taste than wehn they are cooked. 1 thing most are milder.

MY fav Uncook book is "Raw made Easy" by Jennifer Cornbleet. She keeps things simple but tasty.

Slainté (to your health)
First, combining fruits with vegetables is a really bad digestive combination. You won't die from it or anything, but you might end up farting for the rest of the day.
You don't like spinach or kale?
You should really learn to cook properly, because those taste awesome. Two of my favourites.
