If you add fragrance to an all natural lotion base that is 100% vegetarian, is it still considered 100% vege?!
Answers: tarian?
Definitely check what it is first - musk is a 'meat based' fragrance in that it comes from deer glands; but most plant or fruit based 100% oils are vegetarian. They might also be tested on animals, which you don't want.
Try the Body Shop's fragrances. They're 100% veg - though you might have issues with the fact they're owned by L'Oreal.
acceptable to vegans if it's an essential oil derived from plants
Not if it's a meat based fragrance.
It will depend on the fragrance. Use products that specifically state "no animals were used" in the development of their product.
Probably not if it is "bacon" fragrance. But I would not be able to resist a woman who smelled like bacon. Really, meat fragrance? Eau de Porkchop?
If the fragrance is from a plant source, and most likely it is. In traditional perfume making though fragrances are extracted using animal fat. The process is very time conuming and expensive though and is really only used for very expensive perfumes. Most essential oils are extracted useing solvents.
The non vegetarian fragrance you would be likely to come across is musk.
If the fragrance is derived from animals or a product of exploiting the byproducts of animals then it is NOT 100% ...ALL of it is tainted and should be immediately destroyed.
Since I am always on the "look out" for unscented/fragrance free products, I would never add fragrance to an all natural lotion base.
I have several unscented lotions that I use all the time.
If you run into a really good fragrance free shampoo, let me know.
All lotions and fragrances are vegetarian. You don't eat them. Vegetarian is a diet.
Maybe they're part of that flexitarian diet some post about. But their idea of vegetarianism is from another part of the world and isn't accepted here in America, nor here in the American Y/A forum.
