Are there "vegan" vaccines?!

Question: Is there a way to have vaccinations that are not cultured in animal products? Do strict vegans just opt to not get vaccinated?

Scientists depend upon animal tissue to produce the viral strains found in vaccines. SOOO..... yeah

"Ironically, the FDA's website played the largest role in encouraging me not to vaccinate my children. Visit www.fda.gov for information about how vaccine safety is researched and not researched and how a pharmaceutical company achieves their goal of marketing their products to parents and children. "

wow i don't know...but what do vaccines have in them that vegans wojn't stand for?

I don't know. I know that some medicines like tylenol have gelatin in them, but I never heard about vaccines.

Yes. But you have to be more specific--which vaccine are you referring to in particular?

Most flu vaccines, for instance, are grown in egg cultures. However, there are cellular cultures now that do not use eggs and are safe for those that are allergic to eggs. Novartis, I believe, make them.

At the cellular level, what you determine as 'animal' becomes much more politicized and complicated. A lot of vegans I know are sensitive to animal plight, but are ok with exploiting human by products (in a good way:), so they don't have problems with say, taking blood transfusions.

Please get vaccinated; I know it's a pain, but coming from a place where they are not readily available, it really prevents needless deaths. You have no idea how lucky you are.

All vaccines have animal componenets, and are tested extensively on animals before they are tested on humans. So no - vaccines are not vegan. However one way to get vaccinated is to use homeopathic nosodes. They are more expensive and not covered by insurance, but look into it if you're interested.

Personally, I don't get vaccinations or take medication. I don't feel the need to.

Veganism isn't about being a martyr and dying for your cause. It's about avoiding unnecessary suffering. If someone is sick and needs medication (which is REQUIRED BY LAW to be tested) they may feel okay taking it. Obviously we'd prefer animal-friendly alternatives. That's still incredibly different than buying make up and shampoo that was used to torture animals.
