Vegan fried okra?!


Question: I'm vegan and from the south so naturally I lve fried okra but I have yet to find a recipe for it that desn't use cornmeal because I have non. If you have a vegan fried okra cornmeal-less recipe please post it. Thanks.

Well, true southern okra does have a cornmeal base. Buy some. In the meantime, this might work:
1 quart vegetable oil for frying
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup beer
1 pinch salt
1 pinch ground black pepper
Okra slices
In a large, deep skillet, heat oil to 365 degrees F (180 degrees C).
In a medium bowl, combine flour, beer, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth. Dredge okra slices in the batter, until evenly coated. Deep fry in the hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
