Has anyone ever made fun of you cause you're a vegan?!

Question: I don't know about making fun of me, It's kind of hard to make fun of someone who makes a conscious choice to do whatever it is they're doing.

It's more like..they make lame, annoying jokes.

I also find it very strange that they're more obsessed with my diet & lifestyle than I am. It's actually kind of cute. I want to pinch their cheeks and tell them to run along now.

No, the only person that even teased me about it was my brother and we make fun of each other about anything we can, it wasn't really a serious thing. I've only encountered down-right bullying online, in real life everyone's pretty laid back about it; my family was more worried I'd be unhealthy but they got over that quickly. Usually the only time I talk to people about my diet now is when people ask me how I maintain my figure and why I bounced back to my pre-baby shape so quickly.

no but i've had people harass and criticize me for being vegetarian. i've had people do the whole "god put animals on this planet for us to eat them" "You're Stupid" etc. then i've had people try to get me to eat things with gelatin and other meat things but i've never technically been made fun of

No. My brother calls me a vulcan but that's about it. The only nastiness I've encountered has been on this forum - never met nutjobs like that in real life.

Oh yes! You get the typical, "OMG how do you get enough calcium and/or iron?" Or... "PETA -that stands for People Eating Tasty Animals!! Har har har." People are not willing to educate themselves about the diet... they just want to make fun of people who are different. It's like that any time you choose a lifestyle that is different and/or might be healthier than the "norm." Maybe people feel threatened by it... who knows! Just stay on track and don't listen to the naysayers. Listen to your body's cues and be your healthy self!

i have a friend whos a vegetarian and ive desided to be one i havent eaten meat in 2 days. but ive been considering it for about 6 months. No my friends has never been teased. The only ppl who really kno r her friends its not that shes hiding it either the topic just hasnt came up with anyone else

I'm not vegan but a vegeterian, and i do get made fun of a little bit, but not by many people. My sister gives me a really hard time, and says that everything eats meat so why can't humans and just repeatedly calls it "stupid"- which i think is pretty childish. Also, most people accept it but when i told my friend the other day she gave me a weird look and just said "whhhy?". It's kinda hurtful but i wouldn't give up, i guess people just don't understand why i do it.

yes. and it's hurtful. but in the end, you're being true to yourself and your morals. know that the inner peace you feel is stronger than any immaturity that gets thrown at you. if people ridicule you, it may be because of their own insecurities and/or they feel threatened by you doing what you think is the right thing.

next time, just apologize to them by saying, "i'm sorry me doing what i feel is right offends you." if they persist, ask them, "what really bothers you--the fact that i won't eat animal products, or the fact that i am following my morals?" that should not only shut them up, but hopefully get them probing themselves for their own issues, whatever they may be.

stay vegan! good for you! you're helping save approximately 95 animals per year! what are they doing to help?

I've had people want to debate its merits with me. Even though I am at a good weight and have a clear complexion, they will tell me my diet isn't healthy. My brother-in-law makes it a point to add meat to anything I bring to a family potluck even though I never sit and pick meat out of things. (I skip those foods.)
People always want to tell me their favorite vegetarian jokes. The real joke is that they even care about my diet. I don't understand the obsession.

I'm vegetarian, so i lay low, but my friend, who is vegan, and made fun of A LOT. People talk about her all the time and make fun of her, and I always have to tell them to shut up. No one should make fun of anyone else because of their eating choices. That's like someone making fun of someone else because of their skin color.

It wouldn't be fun for them because I would be the one amused.

no. But ive made fun of people for being vegans.
