Is there any other big bird besides turkey? Am cooking for twelve.?!

Question: Ostrich or jo brand

Answers: Ostrich or jo brand

Emu,

ostrich or goose maybe!

Ostrich
emu
emperor penguin - lol

you could do a goose and a duck and give everyone a bit of each, or as do as I am doing and cook a joint of pork instead

Big bird. I hear the yellow meat is great. lol. I believe turkey is the largest bird we really eat like that. There are ostrich and others but idk about eating them.

And you ask this in the V & V section?

I smell a troll.

Goose (makes a terrible mess though)
Or capon, i dont know if you can still get them, its a HUGE chicken. My granny used to get one cos she dont like turkey

It's properly the 'Goose' if you can get one!!

how about a capon
its a cockrell that is fattened up for eating
i tastes like chicken and is big enough to feed a big number

just buy 2 big turkeys.

Goose. Make sure you prick the skin all over before roasting it and place it on a wire rack on top of the baking try. This is because goose contains alot of fat and you need to let it drain whilst it is cooking.
Good luck and enjoy.

Well, there is pheasant, but lots of people find it rather 'gamy' tasting. Why don't you make a turkey plus ham - that will keep 12 people satisfied.

Oh Hell yes! Ever heard of duck or goose, pheasant?

How about that big bird on Deal or No Deal she could feed you for a month Nice legs as well;

Get the recipe for a bird in a bird. You put a pigeon in a pheasant put this in a chicken put this in a Turkey and put it all in a goose.

yes goose, but you can always get a good butcher to stuff lots of birds into one, they usually start with a woodcock or quail, then duck, chicken, capon, pheasant, turkey goose, and each bigger bird is stuffef with the other.
Years ago my grandfather use to start with a blackbird, followed by---
woodcock, snipe, curlew, pheasant, duck of 2 varieties (mallard and gosander i think) then a goose then a massive turkey.
Gran would cook this for over 12 hours overnight on a low heat so that all the birds were succulent.
some supermarkets do smaller version with 4 birds in in their best ranges. But there would be enough for 12 and several meals after.

merry Ho ho ho

You should be able to get a big enough turkey to feed 12 people. Make sure you check how it's going to fit in your oven though, and that you have a dish big enough to roast it in. We used to make one turkey feed 16 people :o)

vanessa feltz. now thats a big bird

I THINK U SHOULD BUY THE 2 TURKEYS WHY NOT

Not sure why this is asked in the Vegetarian & Vegan category but....if you call around to local supermarkets or butcher shops you should be able to find a 20 pound bird somewhere. Without resorting to ostrich or emu or even Big Bird for that matter! Good luck and best wishes!

Actually this is the right forum since Flexitarian Vegetarians, Flexitarian Vegans and Pollo-Vegetarians also are part of this forum.

I suspect emu, ostrich would be tough to find. Turkey is the biggest bird and a nice 18# would feed 12 nicely with leftovers for later.

just stick with the one turkey and do fillers everywhere.. ham, beef roast, baked chicken, meat loaves, and any numerous other meat thingies (especially if there are children, they'd like just a drum stick from KFC)

I dont think you would get enough meat off a goose for 12 to be honest. Turkey would probably be easiest as you have it all in one roasting tin. Pheasant and other game birds are very small and I dont know where you would buy an ostrich (only ostrich steaks). If you really dont want turkey, how about lamb?

goose as in the term "christmas goose".. roast like a turkey

or "capon" (castrated chicken)which could be the size of a large turkey

How about Big Bird from Sesame Street? I'm sure you can find him in Hollywood.

OH COME ON.

THIS IS PATHETIC...

I EAT MEAT AND I WOULDN'T DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

Calling someone else a troll for suggesting two turkeys is really rich. Asking this question in the vegetarian & vegan section is pretty much the defintion of troll. Hypocrite much?
