Is milk bad for you?!


Question: I've heard from several sites that milk is filled with blood, pus, bacteria, pesticides and all these other harmful things. Some say that even causes breast and prostate cancer. There's countless things I've heard about milk, but is it true?

And isn't our milk pasteurized? So wouldn't the bacteria and other contaminations be gone? Yeah, I'm really confused. I mostly got all this info from milksucks.com

Milk in this country is highly regulated and inspected. It is safe and clean.
Milk approved for human consumption is very clean and safe from pathogens. Even before pasteurization milk must meet very strict criteria.
No antibiotics are allowed in any milk for human consumption
It is tested numerous times. Not only is this for the safety of people who might be sensitive, but since most milk is destined for cheese, any antibiotic residue would make the milk unuseable as the cheese won't set.

Many states allow the sales of raw (unpasteurized) milk and in some cases the approved raw milk must be even cleaner than pasteurized milk (California, for instance)

No blood or pus ( which is white blood cells, indicative of infection) is allowed in milk.

Milk is very good for you and especially if it is from good clean sources.
Those that disapprove of milk are vegans and animal rights wackos.
Of course, I wouldn't force anyone to drink it if they don't want, but if you like milk, feel safe that the milk supply is safe and clean. And delicious!

Milk is good for you, but full of salt, so you should drink 2%-regarding all that hype on milksucks.com, if you listen to all that crap you'll never eat or drink anything. Our milk is pasteurized, don't worry!

It's only considered "bad" or "harmful" to you, if you are in your 50's or 60's years of age. Even then, it isn't going to kill you. When you are a child and teenager, it is very good for you because it keeps your bones strong, growing, and healthy. And yes, Milk is pasteurized, and the milk in stores doesn't contain bacteria or any other containment's. If it is not properly cleaned and processed then it might contain those substances, but the milk that is sold in stores is already treated. Milk makes you strong, so drink it!

Milk gives you strong bones and calcium. Its alright if it is pasteurized. Websites aren't always right! Ask Doctors and Dietitians about this. They know the real answer!

Regarding strong bones, even the Dairy Council funded research that proved that dairy leaches calcium from bones.

Above all, milk is unnecessary for human beings to drink. Yes, humans might have been drinking it for centuries, but that doesn't excuse it. No other animal on the face of this Earth needs to consume breastmilk past infancy - why should human beings? ESPECIALLY breast milk from another creature.

It's not something humans were built to drink. There has been a lot of research showing that increasing dairy consumption is in fact not a good way to prevent osteoporosis. In fact, countries with the highest consumption of dairy tend to have the highest rate of hip fractures.

The reason why people are so convinced dairy is so good for them is because of the dairy industry's close relations with the USDA, which writes our Nutritional Guidelines. The dairy lobby's most powerful ads, "Got Milk?" ads, are ridiculous in their very nature. It started with 3 glasses a day but now they are saying 4 glasses of milk a day (24 in 24 is their new slogan). They just want to shove their products down your throat. For more about the dairy industry I would reccomend reading "Food Politics" by Dr. Marion Nestle, a nutritionist that has collaborated previously with the USDA and who has been a board member on various Nutritional Guidelines committees. She reveals in this VERY well-sourced book all of the pressure that the dairy lobbyists put on USDA nutritionists as well as the government in general. She is NOT a vegan, I might add, she is simply breaking the code fo silence and speaking up about our government's fallacies when it comes to pushing political agenda into our food.

Since you put this in the vegan/vegeterian category you're going to get a lot of responses about how we aren't supposed to drink it, how it causes cancer, and how it is really bad for us. That is not true, unless you drink a lot of it. (I'm nit even sure if it's true period)Drinking 1-2 or even 3 glasses a day would not kill you. It's got a lot of calcium and helps strengthen your bones. Soymilk and regular milk can both have health issues, both can be good and bad too. :)

homogenized milk is bad, it is to remove certain particles(not protien), and the filters they use make this particles super tiny.

pasteurized milk is OK, the flash processing kills the Lactobacillus bacteria, which you want. it helps with digesting the milk.

goat milk is better. the smaller the animal, the smaller the protein size, the eiaser to digest

1% or Skim is the healthiest for you ... and even those .. .ounce for ounce gives you more absorbable (the body can use it immediately) calcium than anything else.

Well that's all crap! Milk is very healthy for you. Just think, if they make a site called "milksucks.com" you know their gonna lie about it. Milk is great for you, don't believe people like that.
