I'm vegetarian. There are different kinds of vegetarians. Some eat everything- just no meat. Others eat no meat or dairy or eggs or anything with animal products in it- they are called vegans. That may be the source of your confusion- there are different types of vegetarians. You need to decide how you want to eat. See some of the web sites listed below for more info.

I'm nearly vegan. I have been for about 9 years now.

What to eat? Fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts make up the majority of what you eat. I suggest that you try to eat a healthy vegetarian diet, rather than eating junk food and just avoiding meat. It gives vegetarians a bad reputation when you eat like that plus it's not healthy.

Check out some of the veg web sites listed below or e-mail me for more info.

Best wishes.

A lot!
You can eat tofu, vegetables, carbs
like bread and stuff.

Bread, pasta, vegetable, fruit, dairy products... as long as there isn't meat in it, you can eat it. Stay away from gelatin (some of which is made from animal fat) and check the labels on cheese (don't eat it if it contains rennet, which is basically intestines. It's used to create a certain texture in some cheeses.) Eat soy, green, leafy vegetables and talk to your doctor about vegetarian diets. Make sure you're getting plenty of iron, take a supplement if needed (I have low blood iron to begin with and not eating red meat doesn't do anything to help that : P).

Welcome to the marvelous world of beans!! Baked beans, refried beans, bean soups, lentil soup, hummus and other bean spreads, bean and cheese dips, dhal, split peas and rice or split pea soup, peanut butter, nut butters, peanut sauce,,,, the list is endless. Start adding grains (corn tortillas, rice, potatoes, whole wheat bread....) and your combinations are literally infinite. And that's before you start adding fresh vegetables. And fruits.

And then you can add eggs, and dairy products, if you choose.

So many tasty foods, so little time!

I'm vegetarian too, and sometimes I have trouble eating healthy but I have found somethings to eat which are heathly and good!
1. Couscous- its a rice-y type of dinner that is very good with steamed vegetables.
2. Veggie Burgers- they don't sound too appetizing but I have found that if you pick the right ones and make them well, they are delicious! Be aware of store brand burgers that use alot of fillers that are very unhealthy.
3. Fish (some vegetarians still eat fish, I don't know if you do)- If you do, then I would say tuna fish is good because it has a lot of protein. My doctor insists on some sort of protein in my diet, so I eat tuna every once in awhile.
4. Peanut Butter- this is again, very good because it has a good amount of protein. Plus, it is delicious!

Hope this helped! :]

If you meant meat substitutes I've tried the Boca sausage links (they're so much better than real sausages), and my family loves their hamburger patties. And Morning Star Farms' meal starters, chik'n, hot dogs, and corn dogs are all a million times better tasting than real meat and so much better for you. Although, Morning Star Farms has really gross fake sausage links.

I'm also vegetarian. Let me tell you, the fake chicken nugget things are delicious!!!

well here take this from me im vegitarian too.
eat beets. they might look and taste disgusting but u need the protein. (my mom tells me this stuff).
eat a lot of spinach and greens. the proteins that u are not getting from the meat u need to get from other places. and dont go and take pills its bad 4 u. if ur going 2 take pills take One a Day womens choice but it also dpends who u r. email or im me 4 more. =]

LOTS!

Anything but well, flesh. No red meat, poultry, fish, etc.

Beans, veggies, breads, rice and grains, fruits,,,,,,,,,,,YUM. "Lacto vegetarians" eat eggs and cheese, so you can go there too, if you so decide.

Lots of benefits to eating lower on the food chain. have fun and experiment!

ummm.... anything other than meat?

You can eat anything you want.

Vegetarians choose not to eat animals. Some choose not to eat any animal products.

If you were vegetarian, I think you'd know what you'd be okay with and not okay with eating & you wouldn't have to ask others to tell you what your ethics are.

You need to decide what YOU'RE okay with eating, then find an appropriate label, if there is one; not just pick a cute little label because you want one, and fake it.

a few vegetarians I know like sushi or steamed fish, tofu or yogurt. As long as there is no meat or meat by products.

Food. Really, as long as you avoid meat and meat stocks, there are millions of options out there.

Fish is NOT vegetarian, and anyone who calls him/herself a vegetarian and eats fish is lying or deluded.

You also want to avoid gelatin (it's an animal protein, not a fat, made from the hooves, bones, tendons, and hides of slaughtered animals) and rennet in cheese (rennet is a coagulating salt made from the fourth stomach of veal calves).

There are tons of analogues out there if you miss the taste and texture but want to avoid the cruelty. Check your local Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or natural foods store.
