Red Lentils turn to "mush" when cooked. Brown & Green Lentils hold their shape..taste very similar.
I don't see why you can't use the Red ones.
When I make Lentil Stew I use both. 1/2 & 1/2 it gives my stew a wonderful thickness that just cooking with the browns does not.
Slainté (to your health)
Red lentils will be fine!
In my opinion there is NO DIFFERENCE between brown and red lentils except that red lentils look prettier and more appetizing. Go for it!
The red will work... save time and money!
sure can . add more colour , go outside your basic reciepe you may puy anything that you wish . best thing veggie lasagna , good hot and cold , very filling and healthy , do not be afraid to add different assortment veggies , fish . we live in canada were salmon is dirt cheap works great with veggie reciepe . simple to make fool around with it the one you make may not be the one you want good eating .
you could even use the green ones.....:D
Pork mince is nice!!!
Use textured soy protien imitation chicken, that tastes better.
You put beans in lasagne??? Wow, I must make a really strange one. Hmmm Wanna swap recipes. My kids could use with some beans in their diets, they don't smell as much as usual!!!!
They are the same lentils. They only use different colours for different types of foods, because of the colour. Brown is supposed to look like mince!! Red ones look super cool in salads.

Worked it out. I make a cheesy Vegetable one. very similar to the one below!
Red lentils don't hold their form as well as brown, but they shouldn't "ruin" your lasagna.
wtf is this vegaterian business??
I better not get veggie chips and tofu when I visit or Im taking the Xmas pressies off your kids! LOL, j/k
Dont replace them coz they have different textures and the brown ones you can cook for longer. The red ones will turn to mush.
I find red lentils go mushier and brown/green lentils hold their shape better through the cooking process. I love both types.
Everyone has already mentioned the slight textural difference. As for taste, red lentils have a nuttier, milder taste. The brown ones taste more earthy. I actually think red and yellow lentils go better with lasagne, because the earthy flavor of brown lentils pairs better with strong spices. Lasagne is not a strongly spiced dish.
Brown lentils have the seed coat on and are a better source of fiber.
