What do u think about vegetarians?!

Question: Not the vegetarians that are vegetarians because weight loss or a diet plan, but the ones that do it for the animals and the ones that follow quotes like these:
"to my mind the life of a lamb is no more precious then that of a human being.I would be unwilling to take the life of a lamb for the sake of the human body"-Mahatma Gandhi

"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution.Until we stop harming all other living beings we are still savages"-Thomas Alva Edison

Certainly alot of great & far thinking people were and are vegetarians including Ghandi.

The time will come when it will probably be necessary in our human and planetary evolution to give up meat just as we will have to give up fossile fuels. We are literally destroying and starving our planet and fellow humans. About 1/2 of the fresh water on the planet is used for livestock, 70 percent of the grain grown in the US is fed to livestock and 70 percent of Africa's grain is shipped to Europe to feed their live stock. About 30 percent of the surface of the planet is used for grazing and we are quickly burning down precious forrests to make room for more. 69 percent of the inland water in the US is polluted due to massive runoffs of factory farm waste. Livestock accounts for about 18 percent of global warming (more than car exhausts). So, going veg is about the most efficient way of lessoning your carbon foot print on the planet.

Even the American Cattle Association has officially condoned the nutrional efficiency of a well planned vegetarian diet. That said, the best and most thorough study concerning the effects of animal products versus health is "The China Study". This is a recently publish long term ( 20 years) study which positively links the consumption of animal products to many modern illnesses including cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

In Eastern teachings, it is cautioned that the anger and fear of an animal about to be slaughtered is absorbed into the system, creating more anger and fear. That is why a meatless and cruelty free diet is practiced by serious spiritual aspirants (ahimsa or harmlessness) as in the case of Ghandi and others, including many Christians. From the physiological point of view, when an animal (including a human) goes into a state of fear, it releases uric acid into it's system which essentially poisens it. Carnivorous animals have much longer intestines for which to process these poisens out. However, they also can have healthy vegetarian diets which promote longevity and health as my 3 dogs and 1 cat do (cats do require taurine, which has been synthesized since the 1930's and is added to all commercial brands anyway).

Not only will the world be at peace when Christ rules on earth Isaiah 2:1-5, but wild animals and deadly poisonous snakes will be transformed harmless. Isaiah 11:6-9

"Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission to be of service to them whenever they require it."
St. Francies of Assisi

As long as humans massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seeds of murder and pain cannot reap the joy of love. Pythagoras

I think it's a great idea to be a vegetarian. I just can't stand the thought of violently and brutally killing animals just for our taste preferences.

I think that if a lion came into the room it would eat them, so what's the point?

I don't have anything against vegetarians, but think about it this way; if we were all vegetarians then, there would be no food left for the animals that you "care" about so much. I think this is how life is supposed to be, we eat animals, animals eat plants, and we grow plants as source food for our food the animals. So, I would say there is not point in being a vegetarian. Also there are tens of vitamins, minerals, and other essential things that you won't obtain just from vegetables. So that's my opinion, everyone is allowed to have any opinion right?

I don't even know if people are vegetarians unless they announce it (which is usually the case)

Gandhi said "I would be unwilling..." and he never did get the chance to prove it eitherway. He had food provided for him and even when fasting, had the means to eat if he chooses to to so. he was never in a position wherein eating was a life or death situation.

Edison became a vegetarian due to an illness , mastoiditis (around1908). There is no information however, if he retained this practice for the rest of his life

I am 1 an it is wayyy better 4 your health and the average vegetarians live up 2 100 years or more. and people say that meat is way more healthy 4 you but it will most of all and the thing girls hate is ACNE!!!

Yeah, Gandhi is a big hero of mine.

Part 1.

As an adult, you may eat whatever you want, for whatever reason you want. You want to be a vegan...go ahead you have my blessing.

Part 2.

However, if you are a vegan BECAUSE you believe all life is EQUAL to human life...that is a bad reason.

Man, is superior to lamb. The notion that we should not eat lamb because of the lamb, is preposterous. Remember, It is not about the lamb!

It is about the concept that man and lamb are equal that is dangerous. The more we apply human pain, understanding, feeling, morality, conscientiousness to animals...in eliminating the gap that separates us..the more we reduce ourselves.

Gandhi did many fine things...but any notion that equates man and animal as equal in nature, is dahgerous.

Eat what you wanna eat, but NO ONE has ever lain upon their deathbed and said "I wish eaten less bacon" No one. Not ever. Merry Christmas!

People who are in conflict with, and not accepting of, their nature.

they're just as good as meat-eaters. they dont get the same health benefits, but its thier own choice. it could also be religious

people who are vegetarians who do it for the sake of animals are generally nicer people, more people should be vegetarians, watch crime rates go down, the planet as a whole would be a far better place if the human race were vegetarians,in short my theory is thus: if we were meant to be carnivorous then we would have sharp triangular flesh ripping teeth rather like wolves, lions etc. Also there would have been a more abundant supply of livestock to supplement our meat diet, there isnt ! We have to breed animals solely for our consumption, this cant be right,if animals could talk would we eat them then, happy christmas and oh yeah enjoy your turkey!

Good quote from Gandhi

However, how many lambs a bred for anything other than food, and if all feed lambs were never bred, would you be responsible for the extinction of a species?

Edison on the other hand was referring to cruelty between man against man and the conception of war.

If you don't want to eat meat then don't, its your choice - live with it.

I am not vegi anymore, but I think in general people need to know what they are really eating. The amount of chemical and genetic engineering in farming is disgusting.

i think being vegetarian is better than non-veg, but it bugs me when other vegetarians insult non-vegetarians and say stuff like "ur stupid, how can u eat animals" or they call them meat eaters. its great to be a vegetarian, but not when ur saying derogatory things to people who dont think the same way. like its your choice to eat what u want. the same way, i hate it when non-vegs say stuff about vegetarians. im vegetarian because of my religion... also, if we were meant to eat meat, we'd have sharp teeth/fangs, which we obviously dont.

well, since your info came from you tube, it must be right. FOFLOL. I think anyone who "claims to value all life equally is either a fool or an idiot. would you forget all they medical knowledge that has added decades to your parents and grandparents lives, because it was done through animal research. how about all the cancer treatments tested on animals first. would you place the animals above your Mother or Daughter? if your 5 year old is being attacked by a strange dog, do you stand by and watch because no human is more important than an animal? if you find cockroaches in the kitchen, do you feel how wonderful to share your living space with other animals? I kill bugs crawling where i live, i have family members still alive thanks to modern (animal tested) medicines, I will defend my family from harm (2 legged or 4) and I really enjoy a thick rare steak with a side of mushrooms a some string beans.

I respect them highly, but I don't think that I could pull it off very easily.

I think both of those quotes are extreme. I would not, for example, put the life of my neighbour's dog above the life of my neighbour if the two were burning in a fire, and I'm quite certain that despite what Gandhi said, he would make the same choice. I don't believe humans are savages because they eat meat- I believe they eat meat because they have become accustomed to eating meat.
If there truly are vegetarians that feel animals and humans are equal, then to each his own- I would just have to hope he would make the right choice if the time ever came to choose between the two. I love animals and I value their lives which is why I don't eat them. Humans have evolved to be capable of great compassion, but it would be unnatural to not put your own species' survival first.

I'm a vegetarian and have been since 3rd grade, none of the other members of my family are, but i strongly love animals, and think that they shouldn't be slaughtered in mass number but yet, not at all. I think vegetarians are often more bright because they realize that they are eating what used to be a liveing, happy creature. I strongly support vegitarains, peta, and plan to go vegan once I'm an adult (i would now, but my parents didn't want me going vegetarian now, but deffinatley don;t want me giving up dairy). It;s good to know that others care for the lives of animals.

I think all Life is precious. And one is not higher than another. (I try not to judge). Life is life.

Since life is precious to me, I recognize the suffering of Life. (Suffering is just Life being lived, but I judge it to be bad and do not want it to happen to me). If I can help in any way to ease suffering in the World, then I will do my best to help (what comes around, goes around).

I am a vegetarian....not one who is like a lord to animals tho. those are creeps! lol

i think we're awesome, and those quotes are amazing. they sum up my reasons for being a vegetarian perfectly. =)

Fine.
But who's speaking for the unusual torments we cause on plants by raising them for food?

well i really don't like eating animals but you know they are tastey!!!!! so that's why i eat animals i couldn't live without meat!!!! peace for now

I think they are missing out on the best food on earth , a steak, a Burger, fried chicken etc.
