Does an avocado a day keep the doctor away?!
Answers: I love avocados, and lately, I've been eating one a day. I usually just cut one up and eat it with a sandwich as a side, instead of fries or chips or whatever. And I usually just squirt some lime on there. Great. But what are the benefits of it? And should I stick to one a day, or is it OK to have like...two, or three, or four?
I just wanted to add that they are a good vegetarian source of carnitine. Carnitine is a molecule that transports fat from your cell to the mitocondria (remember Biology 101 and all the organelles of a cell?) to use as fuel to produce energy. Carnitine supplements are used by dieters to help get the stubborn fat out of their cells/adipose tissue. So even though avocados are relatively fat (but nothing compared to the trans fat stuff found in cooked meat), they have something in them that helps you lose fat at the same time!
You also might be craving the avocados for their fat content to help your fat soluble vitamins of A, D, E, and K to travel to where they need to be used by the body (A for eyes, D for bones and tissue, E as an antioxidant, and K is needed for calcium utilization by the bones).
Avocado's are high in saturated fat. Just like Peanuts.
I'm with you though. I LOVE avocado's and eat them all the time.
Just an FYI they are also called Volcanic Pears because of the location they are usually found and if you eat an Avocado outside you can actually taste the pear flavor. Strange but true.
Avocados are not high in saturated fats, but are high in the "good" fats that help lower cholesterol and help in brain function. They contain loads of great vitamins and minerals.
Avocados are also ridiculously tasty. The only reason why I wouldn't recommend eating more than one per day is due to the fat content. If you decide to eat more than 1 per day, I'd recommend cutting fat from another part of your diet.

I've read you should have one a day at most, they are very high calorie and high fat. Though they are full of healthy fat, they can be 300 calories or more per avocado! So eating four would be 1,200 calories - like a Big Mac, Fries and huge Coca Cola.
Sure. People are so brainwashed into thinking fat = bad. Avos are good for you. You aren't going to eat enough to have a negative impact on your health. Enjoy. There are plenty worse vices.
Avocados are a good source of vitamin B6 which helps in several body functions; the nervous system, protein metabolism, and formation of red blood cells
