Question for Vegans and Vegetarians?!
Answers: I'm a admitted overweight single mother, and my question is, would a diet like yours help me to lose weight? I have limited mobility due to a physical birth defect, and my doctor tells me a diet higher in protein can help. How is that possible without having to buy overpriced meat? (my son hardly eats meat as it is)
probably, but it depends on portians as well. and you also cant eat lots of junk, just because you dont eat meat it doesnt mean that you cant eat junk. and you also have to eat lots of protein
protien. You can get all the protien you need in Peanut Butter, beans, and a mixture of veggies. Also there are soy products out there, meatless meat products, that are very tasty and full of protien. I was a vegetarian while I was pregnant but not a vegan I ate eggs, cheese and drank milk. My dr. said to eat a teaspoon of PB everyday and that was sufficiant protien for me and my unborn. If I had not drank milk etc. he said I could still have gotton plenty of protein becaus "it is a myth that you MUST eat meat to get protien"
Here is the diet plan I used for a sucessful weight loss of 30 lbs in 2 months:
Breakfast:
Smoothie consisting of 1 banana, 1/2 cup any frozen fruit, 3 ice cubes and 1/2 cup of lowfat or soy milk
Lunch:
1 serving of veggies, raw or cooked (could be salad but no dressing)
1 bowl of a good cereal like Special K or Kashi
a piece of fruit
Snack:
1 serving of veggies (I usually go with carrots)
1 rice cake spread with 1 tbsp (measure) peanut butter OR you could have a yogurt - I alternated between rice cake w/ peanut butter and yogurt
Dinner:
Whatever you want as long as it is 400 calories or less
And don't drink anything but water and sugarless tea.
yes it will
you can get that kind of protein form nuts and beans
Personnaly I dont believe about high protein diet. If you want loose weight, just stop eat any meat, fish and fat products. Eat lot of fruits and vegetables (raw or steamed). You can eat tofu or any soy product if you like, but dont eat too much. Stop drinks all sweet drinks (soda...), but drink lot of water. You can add little bit of lemon juice if you like to have a taste in your water. The best think, in my opinion, is to change the way you eat not only for a short period of time, but for ever. That's why diet are never working. Because people loose weight then they start to eat same before.... You can be vegan and be overweight if you eat lot of vegan-saussage cooked in burned oil. Or if you eat french fries everyday. Vegan is a good way to eat, because you stop killing and exploiting animals. But its not really a way to loose weight, even if it can help people to achieve that. I wish you success. Try to read more info, by doing seach in internet.
That depends on what you eat.
You can be an omnivore, avoid dairy, eat mostly fresh produce (as EVERYONE should) and fish once a week and be healthier than a vegan who lives on oreos and diet pepsi.
dont do all soy , too much can be bad for you. you can allso eat beans & nuts, seeds or peanut butter for protien as well.
Plant sources of protein can provide large amounts with little fat or calories . It is important to have fat in your diet but with plant sources you can have protein without the bad fats that often come with it. Avocados, nuts and seed are great sources of good fats and flax seeds are even an excellent source of Omega-3s.
To be honest, the only reason to become vegetarian(which means to never touch any red or white meat or fish/seafood for the rest of your life) is compassion for the lives of animals.
The only key to losing weight is to consume less calories than you burn. This can be done whether you never eat meat, eat a little every day or if you eat it occasionally.
I believe it can help as long as you don't become a "junk food vegetarian", I did for about a month and it was not good.
Faux meats are usually high in protein. Some other protein-rich vegetarian foods are: Almonds, black beans, brown rice, cashews, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, lentils, lima beans, peanut butter, pinto beans, seitan, soybeans, soymilk, sunflower seeds, textured vegetable protein (TVP), and tofu.
If you eat a well-balanced vegetarian or vegan diet (fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, grains) and don't eat too many sweets, you should have an easier time losing weight. See this site for more info:

In this case, I think the inexpensive forms of protein available to you in a plant-based diet can help you. I would, however, not look to soy which recent reports have shown to be bad for your health. In fact, you might ask if it is possible for you to have a consultation with a nutritionist/dietician to get you started.
