Does "Smart Balance" light buttery spread have any dairy in it?!

Question: It's in a little butter tub, and I don't have the cardboard packaging on it to check the ingredients list.

I'm pretty sure that it has dairy "natural flavors".

If it contains whey, it contains dairy.

If it says "buttery" instead of "butter," there's no butter in it.

It has lactic acid in it... That could be dairy, but it doesn't have to be. But since it's butter, it might be. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. You should probably avoid it to be on the safe side.

Eart Balance are 100% vegan (garantee from the manufacturer). Smart Balance seams to be from the same manufacturer, but I'm not sure (have link and same name on the site eartbalance). If you want be sure, use the eart-balance product. The smart balance have only the lactic acid, who can be vegan or not (its not specified on the list).

INGREDIENTS:
Natural oil blend (palm fruit, soybean, canola seed, and olive oils), water, contains less than 2% of salt, whey, vegetable monoglycerides and sorbitan ester of fatty acids (emulsifiers), soybean lecithin, potassium sorbate, lactic acid (to protect freshness), natural and artificial flavor, vitamin E (dl-oxtocopheryl acetate), calcium disodium EDTA, vitamin A palmitate, beta-carotene color.

Well I am a former chef and now a vegetarian, and the whey powder, lactic acid and Vitamin A palmate are dairy based, most diet margarine will have some the vegan ones are dairy free, and are not hydrogenated either.

The dairy product are there for flavour, texture and preservation purposes, but sre in very small amounts, so it is not something to worry about, unless your a strict vegan.
