Pro's and Con's of becoming a vegan?!

Question: Being honest, not political, about it:

Cons:

If I don't take steps to ensure I eat enough B12- and iron-rich foods, I am prone to mood swings or anaemia, respectively (but it's perfectly possible to get both substances on a vegan diet with careful planning, and you can feel you're deficient and can do something about it long before the deficiency is causing you any danger, so this is quite a minor con)

Although a dairy-free diet is "supposed" to help asthma and sinusitis, it didn't in my case - both are no better or worse than before

3 years on, I still miss a very small number of foods that I used to love.

Pros:

Much better digestion - my IBS almost disappeared

Less saturated fat and cholesterol than I ate before, so hopefully less risk of heart disease (however, it is perfectly possible to eat a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet that includes meat, dairy and fish, if you're careful - being vegan just means you have to think about it less)

Less risk of contracting diseases like variant CJD which enter the human food chain from farm animals

Discovering a huge range of delicious foods I wouldn't have considered eating before

Good luck!

Pro: fewer toxins and preservatives.

Con: dead animals taste really good.

I've answered this previously for someone...

If you don't get a lot of satisfactory feedback, you might want to check out other's results when they asked this question:

con there is some proteins in meat that your body needs

pro a cleanseing for ur body

Firstly what is the point in all u meat eaters answering the question in such a childish way u know nothing about vegetarian/veganism obviously if u answer in such a childish way...firstly u won't look ill if u eat properly i am a fitness instructor and a vegan never had meat of fish in my life, i am toned n not a skinny lil frail that ppl assume u will look like if u become vegan, yes u will lose weight because u r not putting in all that unwanted fat and cholesterol from meat secondly if u r wanting to become vegan u cannot eat fish otherwise u r not even vegetarian if u eat fish n it gets on my nerves when ppl say they are veggie but still eat fish, no ure just a non meat eater because fish was a living thing!
Just research everything about veganism and ignore all those childish ppl who answer ure question so pathetically it's that ridiculous it's laughable-haha!

Look out in any "web searcher" for the Position of the American Dietetic Association and the Dietitians of Canada, where it states that "appropriately planned vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases" in every state of human development (pregnancy, infancy, adolescence, etc). It is really detailed, and i′m sure it will help you a lot (look for the 2006 one).

It will help you a lot more than those scientific statesments made by some people here that vegans are absolutely "stupid", that "nobody takes them seriously" or that we "look unhealthy"...or even those about some heavenly "proteins" than ONLY meat has.

Anyway, i′m glad you′re thinking about going vegan...but i′m sure that cows, pigs, *FISH* and every animal would be infinitely more glad.

Lots of energy for you, on this great journey!

Go to the book store and buy the book, "Skinny Bi*ch" by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin
It's an easy read, VERY funny and will answer all your questions. Good luck!

I have been vegetarian (not vegan) for 9 months, and have seen no improvement in my fibromyalgia, so I'm not sure the effects it will have on your health- at least short term. Then again, I haven't given up dairy, so going completely vegan may be a completely different story. It certainly couldn't hurt to try it for a while. You will probably drop a few pounds as most of us did/do- not sure if that's an issue for you, but if it is- it's a definite pro. If you suffer with any type of depression along with your lupus, then make sure you're really ready for the switch to a vegan lifestyle as it can add to depression- particularly in the beginning.

It seems it wouldn't be a problem for you to be a vegan. Vegetarianism is more to "Body-Soul-Mind" balance...not in eating habit nor worldly desire alone.

(Warning:There are some fish are killed...don't say I never warn you)

Some of the Pro's are that it is a good and healthy diet if you do it right and just like anyone else take vitamins.

Some of the cons are that you might not be doing the diet right and might not have enough fat intake. Or if you aren't really doing anything and just eating apples and carrots all day and no exercise is pretty bad for you too.

Pro's
1. It's natural.
2. It's healthier.
3. You wouldn't be consuming milk, blood, pus, and sh*t.
4. You wouldn't be consuming the products of animal torture or funding their production.

Con's
1. Enduring ignorant comments. (but you can always laugh about them later.)

If you eat fish, you're not vegan, or even vegetarian. Vegetarians consume no animal flesh. fish are animals.

con:
no more meat!!!!

pro... ummm..
con... they look unhealthy

Pro's: None. It's abhorred

Con's: No more meat in your diet. Even if you're vegetarian, there are things that even vegetarian's cannot eat because 'they're an animal product, or contain animal byproducts.'

Being vegan is stupid, and the only people who will take you seriously are other vegans.

No one takes vegans seriously.

I say pros are

bowel movement
fiber
vitamins
bean protein
omega369 from seeds

con

comsipation
lesser metobolism
easy food containmentation
offal problems
cholosterol
lost of animal nutrients

con: ur diet becomes so carp, loose all flavour

pro: u can **** the people u dont like by not eating the food that they eat...but this also applies to the ppl u like

all in all, no pros

we were meant to eat animals and animal products

we evolved that way or god placed the animals there for us, whichever way u look at it
