Did you make your dog a vegetarian?!

Question: By only giving it veggies?

Answers: By only giving it veggies?

Dogs are omnivores. If people want to consciously choose to be vegetarians or vegans, more power to them, but don't force it on a dog.

No, nor could you do so. In doing so, you would inevitably kill the poor animal, as animals are genetically and physically designed to be CARNIVORES.

That would be animal abuse but I seriously met idiots who tried doing that because they didn't believe any ohter animal should die! I am glad I called animal control.

no my dog eat meat like a fool

Actually a dog could survive being vegetarian much better than a cat. Dogs need a diet high in Carbohydrates but cats need protein. Also cats tend to go and kill their own food if they need to. If you don't want to give your dog meat because of your beliefs, a diet of dried dog food(I know this contains meat) and vegetarian table scraps is fine. Dogs don't have to eat canned food or meat. Their teeth and breath do benefit from chewing on a bone however.

No. I thought about it, but I know he wouldn't go for it. [I've read that it is possible, and there was even a report once (decades ago) of a dog in Scandinavia who refused to eat flesh, preferring to eat just vegetables. But that's a rarity.]

He does love some of my food though, especially the snacky things. He's into nuts, potato crisps, popcorn, corn chips, pasta (with sour cream-based sauce, as he's not keen on tomato-based sauce), bread, English muffins, toast, crumpets, anything sweet (with the obvious exception of chocolate, which is poisonous to dogs - I don't eat it either, so he's not likely to accidentally get hold of any in my house), baked potato, pizza, rice, cheese - all in very small amounts, of course, and not very often. He's occasionally been known to eat carrots and other vegetables, probably because he's eaten them before in canned dog food, so he's used to them.

Dogs are omnivores, so they can do well on a vegan diet.

But, you have to make sure that the dog is getting all he needs (since they have different needs than us). There′s some information on the net.
Don′t feed her/him only with salads. They (like us) need a varied diet.

Gary Francione, well known for his ABOLITIONIST theories on animal rights, has 4 rescued dogs, all of them vegans and VERY healthy. I′m sure he wouldn′t "abuse" his mates.

its possible to do it in healthy manor if youre very careful and have a vet help you with the meal plan, though i dont recommend doing it. most people mess it up and arent careful. besides, its stupid to press your beliefs on a dog.

Humans are made to be herbivorous.
Dogs on the other hand are omnivorous.

I don't have a dog, but my friend has two vegetarian dogs and they're really healthy and energetic.

It turns out one of the oldest dogs in the world was vegetarian as of 2002.
