Why do vegetarians try to make me feel guilty when I eat meat?!

Question: Every time I eat with a vegetarian, they say things like:

"I don't eat meat because a helpless animal had to be killed."

I don't want to be a part of the pain and suffering of animals."

"Animals have rights just like people do."

Instead of pushing their misguided ideologies on me, why can't they just say:

'I have made a choice not to eat meat." And stop trying to make themselves sound like they are better than everyone else with their ego driven remarks.

God put animals on this planet to feed us and work for us. I don't believe we should torture them or hunt for fun, but let's get real people. You can't tell me that a bowl full of tofu and wheat germ tastes better than a thick, tender, mouth watering, juicey hunk of roast beef that has been marinated over night and cooked to perfection.

And don't give me that crap about having to cook and put sauce on meat. I have never seen anyone eat a salad without dressing.

UMMMMM! This burger tastes great!

I have been a vegetarian for many years and I never say things like that to my friends whom I eat meals with. I expect some vegetarians do, but most (and this includes all the ones I know) do not do that to friends so I would be very surprised if you got that every time you shared a meal with a vegetarian.

However, if a meat eater asks me a question or deliberately say something provocative or annoying I will answer their question and this may include direct answers - can you genuinely state that you never do or say anything to provoke these kind of statements at mealtimes?

As for misguided ideologies - this is not a tolerant statement towards your fellow human who have made the choice to live without meat. Maybe you use words (even accidentally) that provoke people and if you take a few moments to use less abrasive language at mealtimes, the responses from vegetarians would be less pushy too.

You must be eating with the wrong kind of vegetarian!
Of course, if you are also shoving a burger in their faces, and telling them how good your burger tastes, then I guess most of us would try to counter-argue your rudeness.

this particular vegetarian is clearly evil

For the same reason EX smokers bug smokers, to try to get them to stop.

Next time a vegetarian makes a snide comment about you eating a burger, ask them why so many vegetarians eat FAKE burgers or any other FAKE meat? If being a vegetarian is so wonderful, why are they PRETENDING to eat meat?
MMMMMM Burgerrrrs.

I eat several vegetables raw or steamed without dressing. If I feel I need a flavour boost, I'll add Lime Pepper seasoning.

God gave Adam and Eve the fruits and vegetables of Eden, meat-eating and killing animals for clothing became a practice after sin. God says we may eat animals, he doesn't say we must.

And I don't really like tofu on it's own, I don't know anyone that eats "Tofu and Wheat Germ" like cereal, I'm not sure were you get your misconceptions. I can do a mean vegan stir-fry with extra firm tofu, however. It's a filler, a different texture.

Also, to the 'fake' meat debate; not all vegetarians eat it. In fact, I don't. It's overpriced and overprocessed. I don't even eat tofu often (although it's not a fake meat anymore than ketchup is fake barbecue sauce, some might like to think of it as such).

your question is hilarious

you are doing what you claim vegetarians are doing . Comedy

"God put animals on this planet to feed us" . wrong wrong wrong

Genesis 1.29 "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."

Don't try playing the God card, its not correct as God himself kindly points out in one of his first statements in the bible.

An important point to make . They are not trying to make you feel guilty, they are giving a very short and brief explanation of why they are vegetarian. Probably because you asked why, or made some ridiculous comment like " Vegetarianism is unnatural" or " Vegetarians are unhealthy". And even if you didn't ask, its hardly a long speech or propaganda, as I said its just a simple statement as to why they are vegetarian.

The fact , and the manner in which, you are posting here clearly shows you are the one at fault.

Actually,
You're only making yourself feel guilty. Never once did you mention the vegetarian told YOU that YOU shouldn't eat meat. Instead they gave THEIR reasons for not eating it. There's a difference between shoving your opinions down someone's throat or giving them an answer as to why they chose to be a vegetarian. In this case, (and believe me, I never side with "preachy" vegans/vegetarians), I think you're blowing it way out of proportion.

By the looks of this question and the details in it, they probably do it because you rub it in their face.

Just to ask a question, why do you care what vegetarians or other people think about your culinary choices?

I don't know what wheat germ is, but as for tofu--I think it's strange that it's held up as the archetype of vegetarian food--that if you eat tofu, you are some crazy militant vegetarian. Political issues aside, millions of people (omni and vege) eat tofu just for what it is, because they don't see it as being political. Eating is a complicated, cultural, familial exercise. Why make it so political too?

Ideas are important, but perhaps sometimes, we should just give ideology (on both sides) a little bit of rest and enjoy our tofu.

I sit and do that sometimes, but I'm only joking, and I only do it to close friends.

I go ewww meat haha.

First off, those quotes are not saying anything about why YOU shouldn't eat meat. I agree with the people who've said you are probably provoking it anyway. You seem to have a very narrow view of this issue. I have been veg*n for 21 years and have never given anyone s**t about eating meat. Secondly, you have a twisted idea of what vegetarians eat, buddy. A big bowl of tofu and wheat germ? Hahahahaha...

Well, if YOU have ever asked them why they are vegetarian, then expect them to answer honestly.

Some vegetarians can be overly preachy, but don't judge the whole group by a few specimens.

Actually, believe it or not I do enjoy tofu (fixed properly) much more than I would enjoy a steak if I tried to eat it (don't know why would.)

I don't think I'm better than anyone. I have made a choice about my diet for several reason, and I think I've made a good choice.. (or DURRR, why would I have done it?) but I also think everyone else gets to choose what to eat. Omnivores don't bother me as long as they dont rag on ME for being vegetarian..

so basically.. live and let live.. and take it from me.. not all vegetarians are annoying and preachy..

But it does sound a bit like you're here just to rant..

well tell them that its already dead so why not eat it u had nothin to do with the killing of the animal
