Will the production of GMO fruits and veges deal another blow to the dwindling bee population?!
Already there are areas in Europe where the bee population has disappeared completely and all pollination is done by human hand. Is this the future for all?
Answers: GMO's are designed to withstand large amounts of pesticides and herbicides. Bees are already disappearing at an alarming rate. Do you think the increased use of these pesticides and herbicides could reduce the bee population to a dangerous point?

It's entirely possible. As far as I'm aware, the FDA's approval process for genetically engineered foods only looks at the safety of the food itself, not its effect on anything else.
GMO products are against nature, I don't even like the thought of this. Thanks for bringing this up. I make a point of seeking out non-GMO products.
u may be surprised to learn that you have a 75 percent chance of picking a food with genetically modified (GM) ingredients when you’re at the supermarket. This is because at least seven out of every 10 items have been genetically modified.
In fact, the United States leads the world in GM crop acreage with 123 million acres in all (that’s close to one-third of the agricultural land in the United States planted with gene-altered crops).
And the blight of genetically engineered crops across the globe continues to grow. Worldwide, there are at least 222 million acres planted with GM crops, and the number keeps rising.
Although the major food giants are carrying on with their claim that GM foods are no different from conventionally grown varieties, the research begs to differ.
Here is just a sampling of the unsavory findings associated with GM foods:
GM peas caused lung damage in mice
GM potatoes may cause cancer in rats
Bacteria in your gut can take up DNA from GM food
They may be spurring the creation of weed-killer-resistant superweeds
Aside from the potential risks to your health, genetic modification known as “terminator technology” is now being used to create, you guessed it, seeds that “self-destruct.” In other words, the seeds (and the forthcoming crops) are sterile, which means farmers must buy them again each year (as opposed to using the seeds from their harvest to replant the following year, which is the traditional way).
This, of course, means bigger profits for the food companies that are patenting GM seeds, and more money shelled out from farmers. Worse still, this practice could actually threaten the entire food supply because the sterile seeds may spread to nearby fields.
There is an incredibly important documentary on this topic that I urge you to watch yourself and then pass on to ALL of your friends and family. This should be required viewing for everyone that is living in the 21st century. It will open your eyes to the dangers of GM foods and do it in a way that is very easy to learn.
No. GMO plants decrease the amount of pesticides used. For instance BT corn only kills corn borer, nothing else. In non BT corn you would have to spray furadan or a similar product that would kill all insects and animals to eliminate the corn borer. Herbicides only kill target plants (weeds) and are used on non GMO more heavily. Instead of using Roundup, you would have to use 3-4 different products on non GMO crops.
Yes Monsanto sells seed and chemicals. None withstand large amounts of pesticides, All are herbicides. Herbicides kill no insects. Roundup is a herbicide.

Here is a link for BT corn, a GMO.

It's a simple fact non GMO crops require more chemicals than GMO crops.
Please if you have a list of some GMO products that require extra pesticides I would love to see it.
Their is a big difference between non GMO and organic.
You out of all people are now using a propaganda site as a reference, Greenpeace?
I grew up on the farm, my father still operates the farm. He raises about 50% GMO and 50% that isnt. The 50% that isn't is far from organic. It Gets twice, at a minimum, of the amount of chemicals used on the GMO crops.
If you read the last web site I posted, it tells in the first paragraph, how GMO's don't harm the bees.
You keep confusing herbicide with insecticide.
Again I would invite you to give me a GMO product that requires more chemicals than a non GMO, and I mean, non GMO, not organic.
As far as kruster is concerned, roundup was not designed for human consumption. He can enjoy his non GMO furadan sprayed carrots. I've been sprayed and tasted roundup several times. I would like to see Mr. Non GMO try a shot of furadan.
Kruster, Nobody is forcing you to stay in a country of "shameless crooks", You can leave at any time.
Hey, happy new year.
I have no idea. I'm uncomfortable with the idea of Genetically Modified food, but I don't see exactly how that would affect the bee population in particular. Regardless, human beings are messing around with nature and it has consequences.
All chemical pesticides are biocides. They destroy life through unnatural means. All life is composed of cells and each form is fragile. I dare FlexiVirgin to drink some Roundup and see if he's still alive to troll in the morning.
Any unnatural compounds that are introduced into the environment could have an effect on the bee population. We have already done irreparable damage by favoring the ALIEN European honeybee and caused extinction for countless native species.
If biodiversity was ever crucial in the developed world, the case of natural pollinators would be the most noteworthy. To put things simply, we definitely blew that one.
If this nation was not run by shameless crooks, I would be able to tell what products contain GM ingredients and I would avoid them like the plague. The best option that we have is to buy foods that are labeled organic or non-GMO.
