Vegetarians, how do you become vegetarian when hot dogs taste so delicious? in 08 I planned to go veggie too?!

Question: but last night I couldnt resist and I ate a nice juicy streak.
How do you people do it??
Also is it true that vegetarians put on weight?
You see I am also planning on losing weight this year. So will it make it harder for me?

Thank you very very very much for your answers :)

I agree. What man can resist a high fat emulsified offal tube in a bun?

Not to mention steam recovered eye balls and testicles in amusing bread crumbed animal shapes?

You veggies don't know you're alive!

tofu dogs taste great and are vego

A streak, eh ? I thought they went out in the '70s.

UMmmmmmmm yes hot dogs are delicious, giving them up has been one of my greatest regrets. thankfully they make veggie hotdogs out of tofu, not as yummy though. cutting down on your hotdog intake will help with global warming too. so please factor this in your decision.

hot dogs are the vilest tasting food on earth.

it is very hard at first to go veg. i did it back in june, relapsed in july a bit. now whenever i have an urge to eat meat i just remember how meat sick i get (it lasts for two days). there are some very good veg hot dogs that taste a lot like real (meat) dogs sometimes i cannot even taste the difference. unless you have friends that are veg, the fake meat foods are basically trial and error. unfortunately they havent found a decent replacement for red meat or bacon yet.

some of my fake meat recommendations are: quorn brand, morningstar farms (the fake chicken patties taste exactly like real chicken patties).

when i cut meat out of my diet i almost overnight dropped ten pounds.

p.s. to be truly veg you might want to start reading the ingredient labels on packages to avoid eating the various animal fats that are routinely used as preservatives in a lot of food. (i.e. rice mixes, potatoe mixes, stuffing mixes, most hostess products)

p.p.s once you have cleansed your body of meat you will get meat sick if you have any meat. and being meat sick is a lot worse than normal sick.

Veggie hot dogs are nice aswell, I find it hard when I smell a nice beef roast on a Sunday but I get through it lol its just determination and the feeling you are doing something good.

I'm not sure about putting on weight, generally a vegetarian diet has less fat etc in it, but I'm putting on a bit of weight (boooo) but thats probably because I eat pizzas all the time lol I've been veggie for 10 years, and never had a problem with my weight, like I say probably just the sharp uptake in fast food as I have no time to cook or anything because of my job. I think becoming veggie will make it a lot easier to lose weight though.

Good luck!

We all like a bit off "meat"

A. I have never liked hot dogs even as a kid, always thought they were gross.
B. I have found that it is very easy to not eat meat, even my most favorite (fried chicken).
C. Vegetarians generally lose weight unless they become a junk food veggie.
Good luck, looks like you need it.

Hot dogs? I'm afraid if that's the first thing that comes to mind then you're beyond hope.

im new at this too, but today i ate a vegie hotdog,,, youd b suprised,, i was,,, yummmm xxxxx

Oh it wasn't hard for me, for the few months before I became veg, i kept seeing the animal that i was eating ><
I was a BIG fan of hot dogs, sausage rolls etc.... zoglos products are a great substitute. And I eat such a diverse range of foods now, including foods i wouldn't have touched as a meat eater, and am enjoy lots more cooking and experimenting.
Regarding weight - I lost 6 kg when i dropped meat.... losing all that saturated fat from your diet! Plus the increase of fruits, veggies and legumes etc.... much healthier.
I guess, you do have to be determined and have will power... a lot does depend on the reason you're doing it, but then again, it doesn't have to be ethical, health reasons or whatever... if your own reasons are strong enough for you, you can do anything.
Personally i found it easy - it was nice not seeing faces on all my food :P

Good luck, and happy new year :-)

hi my name is mikey
if you like meat so much why not eat it and loose wieght go on the atkins.
i know somebody that lost a lot of wieght on that. They even got to eat thier favorite foods like:
eggs
tuna
mayanaise
bacon
good luck
remember thats all toy can eat
no sugar
thankyou mikey

I considered the same thing. Alas, I could not survive without a nice big sausage!

3 words: Textured vegetable protein. If you ate bac-o's before, then you've ate TVP,

You can get vegetarian hot dog sausages that taste no different to the real thing. I too loved hot dog sausages, but it's not a problem given the veggie ones. The other thing for me was bacon. but you can also get some delicious veggie versions. Good luck.

PS, on the weight loss issue, no, you shouldn't put on weight, unless you eat junk food.

dont go vegeterian

weve got enough jackass veggies already

Is that a part of your diet plan. What is the matter can you not take the truth..............Jason W

It helps to find out what happens to your meat before it gets to your plate. Look up videos and statistics of what animals are fed to "fatten them up", look up the antibiotics and hormones used on them.

Personally I didn't put on any weight as a vegetarian.

Vegetarianism isn't a magical diet, I'm sorry to say...

Losing weight is all about eating less calories than you burn; you can eat 1,500 calories of cherry pie every single day for a week, but if you burn 2,000 calories a day by being active and just being alive, you'll lose weight that week (probably 1 - 2 pounds!).

Just eat less calories and exercise more. That'll do it. Cutting out meat and dairy might or might not make your diet healthy. Since it sounds like you enjoy processed, high-sodium, high-fat foods like hot dogs, you might end up seeking out vegetarian versions of it - there are companies like Morning Star that have all the processed "fake" meats to fill your heart's content, and you wouldn't be much healthier than if you stuck with real hot dogs in the first place.

I think for me it became a true care and consideration about whether I want to support the meat industry and what it is doing to animals, the laws, the government and the environment. (Look up how the meat industry sues the media if anyone brings up their dirty ways, too - Oprah lost over 2 million dollars for bringing it up on one of her shows in the 90's - she won the lawsuit they slammed her with but it was a very costly legal battle).

Also look into what the FDA/USDA permits to pass as healthy - can the meat industry sell us meat from animals that had tumors, lesions and cancers on their body? Can beef cattle be fed chicken feces to save money and to get rid of the chicken waste on chicken farms? How much arsenic (which controls worm infestations in the close-quarters chickens are kept in) is legally permitted to be in the meat sold in this country? You may or may not be surprised.

Order yourself a vegetarian starter kit. It might help.

Go to a used bookstore and get some vegan cookbooks

Switch to fake meat. You'll find it tastes better than real meat and you're less likely to get a heart attack from it.

I never liked hotdogs in the first place so it was easy peasy for me

As for weight, from what I've seen from other vegetarians they don't put on a lot

Good luck :)

Hot dogs are gross...soy dogs are good and not made of gross animal parts. You would only put on weight if your diet was unhealthy and this has NOTHING to do w/ whether or not you eat meat. You couldn't resist a steak? Try looking at it as resisting eating a cow that was tortured and brutally murdered. That might help.

Stuff being vegetarian!

Mmmm Steak Sausages Ham Chicken Lamb

Why Just Why :)

YUM TO MEAT.

crispy. do you know that your delicious hot dog probably contains about 10% meat. and that meat will be testicles eyelids and ears. yummy eh? the rest of your hot dog will be made up of cereal , chemicals and bone scrapings. enjoy.

I never thought I would ever say this, but you need to stop eating vegetables. Yes, that is right, I didn't make a typo. You need to stop eating vegetables, fruits, cakes, steaks, burgers, meatloafs, anything, just stop all eating. Next step, get your stomach stapled.

if its hard for you and you cant do it, then your not trying.
you when you say 'you people' you make it sound like we're some kind of different race that lives on some island

Hot dogs are just the tip of the iceberg.
What about bacon butties?

Why start now you fat mess? You've done the damage-just enjoy yourself.

Crispy you know how to live.

If you are worried about weight gain you might want to look into a flexitarian diet, it allows you to enjoy hot dogs in moderation.

Don't do it, Crispy. There are plenty of pleasurable ways to be weird- why choose something so dreary?

you shouldnt become vegetarian because you want to lose weight, you should do it because of what is right and by the sounds of things you might not be able to cut a whole year.
