Call yourself a vegetarian!?!

Question: i really dont understand how people think they can call themselves vegetarians if they still eat fish and chicken?? a fish is a living, breathing thing that has feelings of pain when you chop its head off, there are fish farms like bird farms where they are bred for killing and eating so where is the difference if it lives in the sea?? "oh yes im a vegetarian im against animal killing, but i eat fish" how does this make sense? you are not a vegetarian the clue is in the name, vegetarian means you DONT eat meat of any kind!

agreed! I hate when people say I'm a vegetarian but I eat fish...then you aren't a vegetarian!! totally agree =]

i completely agree

I been saying this for years . Ive just answered a question from someone who claimed to be half a vegetarian.DOH

Hear, hear!

Fish is meat, period, and some of the answers you are getting to this are priceless.

Edit: Anything with a brain and nervous system can feel pain. Fish can certainly feel pain. There is no meat that is approved by vegetarians. Sounds like that other poster meant "organic" meat, which is still not vegetarian, though it is probably a preferred choice to conventional meat.

LMAO @ getting two thumb's down.

Hey Autumn guess what? You're going to be quoted on my message board!!

"actually some veggies do eat meat which is odd but there are vegetarian approved meat"----too funny.

To answer the question, it doesn't make sense.

very true indeed i have been a veggie for 14 years and I've never ever touched fish, how can they say they are veggie. i woman i knew used to eat the crackling of a cooked pork joint and say she was a veggie!

i know, those type of "vegetarians" are stupid and are meat eaters to me.

I like how no matter how many links you give and how many times you correct those people, they still refuse to listen. Look at how many responded with "some vegetarians eat meat". They just don't get that the definition of the word is not theirs to decide - it's already decided and it's "one that eats only plants" - no animals. And we wonder why our international rankings are slipping on intelligence. . .

I agree completely

chicken has to go threw more pain to be slaughtered too

Ginny Jin - actually, when fish are hirled out of the water they can become so shocked that they through up their lungs and oesophagus. I really doubt that's right.

I really agree with what your saying. These pescitarians (who eat fish by the way) give other vegetarians a false image, they make meat-eaters think that all veggies eat fish...they only find out we don't when we refuse to eat it!

Yeah I agree with you on the fish thing. I havn't met anyone who eats chicken yet still calls themself a vegetarian...thats just silly! I have even searched for vegetarian recipes on the internet and meals have come up that include fish. I believe a real vegetarian eats no meat or fish.

i think they justify killing these animals because they aren't as cute and cuddly as a calf or piglet

i agree but each to their own i say! ive been veggie for twenty years and don't eat red, white or fish meat nor do i eat eggs.

I agree with you completely! An uncle of mine just became vegetarian and it was a huge deal in my family- but, he said, he's still eating fish and eggs! Eggs are the menstruation of a chicken, and the potential life source, therefore: not vegetarian. And a fish is much less vegetarian than an egg.

i completely agree/

i just dont eat things with a face. simple. plus i have a pet goldfish, i cant eat its cousin. how crap woud it be to have a feline pet and then eat a tabby cat? veggie deli (a vegetarian brand) make fish fingers! £2 for 6, so its a bit of a rip off, but say you have two per meal, it's not so bad, and im the only vegetairan so i know that if i buy them, theyre all for me- if ever i get a child-like hankering for a fishfinger and ketchup sarnie. they dont contain any fish by the way.

anyway, the otherday i saw "real" fish fingers at Asda. 50pence for a large bag of fishfingers! be honest! what kind of fish do they contain!?! surely for 50p they contain golfish heads and the cats that ate them. I bury my goldfish when they die, and we got flooded in summer, so they saw my fish float down the street and thought "two nill, take them to asda".

ALSO, i dont agree with other peoples ideas of vegetarian. vegetarian means no meat, eggs arent meat and they arent the life source of a possible chicken, the chicken were fed hormones so that they never gave birth. which is much worse. If you were a woman and you were pregnant... how many times? and each time you "gave birth" to your child, all the babies were dead... how humane are free range chickens now?

okay, this'll make more arguments, im vegetarian, half vegan. "HALF FECKING VEGAN!?!" yes. because i dont like the taste of dairy and eggs make me ill. But! i eat things containing eggs and dairy, as long as it doest taste like it.

Alternatively, my mother once gave me some chicken nuggets, made by "Quorn" and i cried, because i bit one and it tasted like chicken. So, i'm not saying "it doesnt taste like meat, so eat it"

That's true. It doesn't make any sense. I would prefer if people like that called themselves "flexitarian" or "pescatarian".

Those people are so annoying and hypocritical!
They give a bad name to veggies everywhere.
Honestly, I think some do 'veg*nism' because its 'popular' now.
Whatever.

it is funny to think that chicken and fish are vegetable.
Plus fish does feel pain, otherwise he wouldn't try to scape , so he feels even scare, like any alive being does when threatened.

Fish don't feel pain. It's a reflex.
Plus vegetarians and vegans are different.

Edit - Smile2Day - A fish does not have a neocortex which is where the pain receptor is located. They do not feel pain in they same way as a cow or pig would for example. People just need to eat according to their consciences.

They are some vegetarians that only eat certian meats like pedovegetarians, only eat fish etc

actually some veggies do eat meat which is odd but there are vegetarian approved meat..which means the animals lived a long healthy life and died naturally. The animals weren't murdered or pumped with steroids. So there is no cruelty or harmful chemicals

It all depends on why you chose to be a vegetarian and there are all kinds of reasons. Who cares what other people do, say, eat just worry about yourself man..otherwise your going to go nuts.

sweet i have always wanted to be quoted...U people are nuts!

STOP WHINING! cry me a frigging river why don't you.
