Is it true that if you live a vegan lifestyle...?!
Answers: that you have a cholesterol free diet?? And are there breads and pastas out there that are fine for a vegan lifestyle??
Yes, because cholesterol can only come from animals and animal products (milk, cheese, eggs).
There are vegan pastas and bread. Bread sometimes has whey or is glazed with egg or might be enriched with vitamins that are from animal sources. However, I have NO trouble finding vegan bread.
Almost all pasta is vegan, except egg pastas (which are obviously not vegan). There are specially enriched pastas with added vitamins that aren't vegan, I have even seen pasta with DHA added from fish sources... it is all a matter of turning the product around and looking at the label and seeing what's in there. Most pastas are vegan... a typical ingredient list in the pastas I buy: "Durum Semolina, Water". Short and simple.
It's true that you won't consume any dietary cholesterol (which only occurs in animal products), but that doesn't necessarily mean that you will have lower blood cholesterol - ANY saturated fat will cause your blood cholesterol to rise, whether it is animal- or plant-derived. (I think that's right, anyway - I'm not a scientist, but that's what I've always been led to believe.) However, vegan diets tend to be lower in saturated fat than meat-based or dairy-based diets, but that's a generalisation - it will come down to exactly what you eat. Live on coconut curries, avocadoes, potato chips and biscuits, and you'll still be vegan but your cholesterol will go through the roof.
Most breads and pastas are vegan, but do read labels, as not all are.
Yes.
Vegans consume no animal products. Cholesterol is found only in animal products, never in plant products. Therefore, vegans never consume cholesterol.
Some breads are made with vegetable oils such as palm kernel oil or coconut oil, that are high in saturated fats. They are bad for you, but they aren't cholesterol. If a bread is not made with eggs, honey or milk, only grains, yeast and liquids, then of course vegans can eat it.
Cholesterol "free"? Not likely. Even legumes and soy products have a small amount of cholesterol, but it's on the order of 1-4mg per serving, and that's drastically smaller than what you find in meat and dairy products.
But, saturated fats are what cause problems with LDL cholesterol in humans, and you can make some lousy food choices as a vegan and wind up with LDL levels that aren't good.
yes, because cholesterol comes from animal products.
There are many vegan pastas, as long as they aren't egg noodles.
And you can find vegan bread at many stores.
Yes. Vegan diets do not contain cholesterol. Cholesterols only come from animal products. If you are vegan, and you see something with cholesterol in it, it probably isn't suitable for you.
Yes, cholesterol is found only in foods of animal origin. It's produced in the liver (even yours) so if a living thing has no liver, it has no cholesterol. If you live a vegan lifestyle you *could* still have a high cholesterol level, though - genetics plays a role, as does your consumption of saturated fats. If you eat lots of sat fat, your liver produces excess cholesterol. The majority of vegans have a healthy cholesterol level.
Yes, there are breads and pastas that are 100% vegan. Most pasta is just enriched flour and water, though some are made with egg. Just read the label. Bread can be harder because lots of manufacturers put whey and/or honey in their bread. But a little label reading pays off here, too. My grocery store of choice carries and organic "harvest grain" bread that's vegan and delish.
Yes you can have a cholesterol free diet because of being a true vegan. I have been a vegan for 15 years and I can tell you that I haven't been healthier or better looking than I did when I was a teenager. I'm sorry to tell you but you can't have any breads because of the animals that were killed during the harvesting of the wheat from the fields, and pasta is a big NO NO because eggs are used in the production of the noodles. I will tell you my secret though I have one multi-vitamin for breakfast, a large glass of water for lunch, and a large glass of water for dinner. That's all I eat because everything has animals in it. Oh by the way the water must be distilled otherwise single cell organisms will be present and I couldn't live knowing I killed a cute little amoeba.
