Anyone here vegetarian? I sure am. If your not, why?!

Question: I have been a veggie all my life and can never be involved in causing pain to innocent animals.

I think/experienced that the meat eaters are the first ones to be rude. And I think its nothing to do with vegetarianism/veganism. I think most people do not know how to deal with different/new method of living. Most people like to continue their unchanged life. And anything that confronts that comfort zone gets attacked. – different religion, different race, women in the work place, immigrants. All these issues were and are still attacked. Because people do not like something different. Regardless of whether it is right or wrong.

As far as vegetarians thinking we are better. Oh please…, that’s the whole point, we do not believe we are better, we believe we need more compassion and respect for all living.

I think a lot of people do not think about how the food came to their plate. there is a sense of "well, i did not see it so i do not care". its all about me! -

i believe: more education + awareness = better choices = better world.

i love steak, that's why.

and I do care about animals. My dad is a veterinarian so I've been raised around animals for 21 years. I just go along with the good ole Food Pyramid and not worry about substituting this food for that........I like it all. :)

I Love BBQ

I'm not here, but I don't know why. It's the strangest thing.

I LOVE MEET SO thats it

I do not believe in labeling myself. I do eat a wide variety of foods which includes meat. Why does everyone need to label themselves? Eat real foods that are natural and get on with life.

Honestly? I like the taste of meat, but it's more then that, because I probably wouldn't eat human no matter how well it tastes. To me it's more of the interconnection of life. the web of the world. Humans for the most part are omnivores really need to be to survive well. (Obviously there are alternate lifestyles like vegetarianism and vegan ism, but all my friends who keep to those lifestyles have to take vitamin supplements). No one blames the lion for eating the deer, so why should we feel guilty about eating deer too? Plus why are animals more alive then plants? That plant was growing and alive before you picked it. Or if you are a vegetarian that eats fish and/or chicken why is that better then beef? To quote The Lion King, "it's the circle of life". That's just how I see it, it's not the food chain to me, it's the food web.

how do vegetarians deal with "spam"? once you've read it, it's been consumed and digested. does spam cause an allergic reaction to a vegetarian?

but i digress...

i'm not a vegetarian, mostly because cain was (yep, THE cain), and he killed his brother over it, so as a lifestyle, i find it's roots to be grounded in way too much righteous indignation and violence.

btw, it's "you're", a conjunction for "you are"....NOT "your", a possessive pronoun.

you can thank me later...

i am but then I'm not
i think everyone should be an omnivore
that's just my opinion
but if u r just vegan then that means u haven't eaten anything with a face think about that
now r u really a vegan cause i know that u have tried meat
everyone has

Because I raise them to eat them.

Because humans are omnivores and their bodies require meat proteins to function properly.

Not eating meat can make you go gay, make your brain shrink, and turn you into an Islamic terrorist.

It is also discrimination against meat.

Do you not have any feelings for the vegetables you're slaughtering? Do you not hear the cries of the carrots?

Wow, yes, I'm veggo, and you're brave to ask this question! The kneejerk reactions you have received already just shows how little the general public knows about vegetarianism.

Unfortunately it looks like people are exercising the old hackneyed, specious pro-meat arguments - eg. plants feel pain, animals eat animals, meat tastes good (do people "taste like chicken" too?), we are "meant" to eat them - (how many are there?)

I don't claim any moral high ground as a vegetarian - I am just as "hypocritical" as anyone else. I see it as a personal thing; it is "my" way to help animals, the environment, and my health, and it is delicious!

It is difficult to get past all the negative myths and stereotypes surrounding vegetarianism. Partly because people see it as a threat to the status quo, or as undermining their "right" to eat meat.

Everyone, if you haven't already, please take 13 minutes to watch this video, "Meet your meat":

I watched the PETA video.. Didn't really sway me. It swayed my vegetarian friend, but I guess I don't have a heart then?
Oh well. I was raised eating meat, I'll continue to eat meat...

I also feel like if animals eat eachother we should eat eachother too. Then again, I would probably eat another person if I was starving.. and it was cold.. and we were stranded in the middle of nowhere.. Who knows?
Besides, I like having my colorful array of options when it comes to food. I hate limitations, especially moral limitations. :P But that's just who I am.

I really do love animals, by the way. I have many pets.. If I lose the fight to the death in the cold middle of nowhere, then someone else gets to eat me... but that's just life, I guess. Everyone lives and dies.. it's a lovely thing :)
