Vegies, Why dnt u eat meat? cuz u dont like it, or because u think its cruel to animals? or why?!

Question: I love love love animals and have loads, I couldnt dream of hurting them, but i eat meat, I was raised on it because it seems normal, where as if I HAD to kill a cow for meat then thats a different story I couldnt do it and would eat the meat if the animal was killed in front of me.

so does it actually turn ur belly when thinking of the animal? or is it because u think if u dont eat meat one day they will stop killing animals?

vegetarian since i was 10 and vegan since i was 13!

If we learn to like the taste of meat, we like it but when we learn the cruelty involved towards the animals, we give up on meat,.
even though many veggie still like the taste of it, they rather make a food that taste meat than eat meat - it is just a question of break the tradition, be a free thinker: meat is not good for our health, meat destroy the rain forest, meat means famine in third world, meat means infernal suffering for other animals, so my mum and dad eat meat, but I don't have to.

Both those reasons. I don't like it because I know where it comes from and how an animal dies painfully for it. If abattoirs had glass windows would meat still be so popular? Most people don't see any problem with meat because they've been bought up on it, it's a habit basically.

I would kill and eat the meat if I was hungry enough, I think you would too?

I've given up meat for health reasons purely by choice and not conviction. I do like meat and I would kill if I had to, but having made the choice to be meatless I can change my mind any time and I don't try to force my choice on others nor have a hissy fit if someone serves me meat.
I have no objections to eating meat so long as it has been carefully raised and humanely killed.

Well hopefully, you won't have to kill your own food... I've butchered animals in the field when I hunt so it really doesn't bother me at all. Obviously, I am not vegetarian.

I personally don't eat meat because it is unhealthy and wasteful (the grain fed to livestock would feed many more people than the meat obtained from the animals).
I have to point out, though, that if I felt the way you SAY you do I couldn't look myself in the mirror if I ate meat. And I have butchered cows, deer, birds and pigs.
In case you didn't know, that makes you a HYPOCRITE.

By nature we are designed to eat both meat AND vegetables for a healthy, balanced diet. Evolution has given us omnivorous characteristics including teeth and digestive systems to cope with both.
I would not like to be presumptuous, but I think most vegetarians do not eat meat out of principle for the cruelty some animals suffer, not becuse they dislike it, and I agree there should perhaps be a better way to produce meat more humanely. I am un-supportive of fox-hunting and always buy free-range eggs to do my part, however I am afraid I still eat meat as I enjoy the taste too much.

Man is meant to eat meat - meat that he has tracked/ trapped / shot / outwitted, killed, taken home, skinned, gutted, and butchered. I have no problem with that. What I do have an issue with is meat eaters who sit at home, eating their little convenience meals, and wouldn't stand and watch that animal be slaughtered. If you couldn't face even watching the animal die, then I don't think you deserve to eat it's flesh. I don't eat meat, through choice, but I have NO problem with people who go hunting/shooting/fishing for their own meat. (Not for sport, for food only). That is what man is meant to do.

My family comes from a farming community in Hungary that goes back at least 100 years. I have no problem whatsoever with slaughtering chickens, pigs and other animals for meat which I end up butchering myself, cooking, and eating later on. I don't actually take any pleasure in killing anything, but I feel it encourages me to deeply respect and appreciate my food far more than if I had simply bought it from a supermarket, and I cannot say I feel any guilt over it. In fact, it just tastes better. My uncle and I also like hunting and fishing, by the way. I believe the problem is that most animal rights activists, vegans, and perhaps kids in general are pretty sheltered and naive these days and have never in their lives had to actually work to obtain their own food directly from the source. Stick them on a farm or out in the wilderness for a while, and I'm certain their attitude would change and maybe they would not be so judgemental.

I started off becoming a veggie at 14 because I didn't like the taste of most meat (beef, lamb, pork) but my mum insisted that as kids we ate what was on our plate. So I gave up all meat.

Now it is more because for animal rights reasons - I choose not to eat other living things, nor wear leather and try very hard not to use products which have been tested on animals. I'm not stupid enough to think that by me stopping eating meat it will one day stop animals being killed, but I don't have it on my conscience that other living things are killed for me to eat.
I would imagine that I still wouldn't like the taste of meat too.

I choose to eat a balanced diet of meat, vegetables, grains, fruits and dairy products. My body has been designed for this type of diet.

I respect those that choose not to eat meat for whatever reasons they choose. We all want to be happy and have to do what we need to to survive.

But KJ, if you do not eat living things, what nurishment do you get from air? You said you do not eat living things. I assume that means that you are a vegetarian. Those plants have to die to sustain your life as well. Those plants were alive before you have them ripped out of the ground to satisfy your hunger. What worse you choose to eat one that cannot even run away to save it's life.

We all kill to sustain our lives. People choose to eat different things, respect that and be happy with yourself and the choices you have made.

There are ten or more different reasons people choose. Check this link out. http://www.vegsource.com/how_to_win.htm

I always think that if I ate it.. they would have to kill another animal to feed the next person. Whereas if I don't - they can have mine!

By you becoming a vegetarian, many of them will opt your "way" by example. I.e from you to your kids to another generations, family, relatives, friends and society. But it will surely would not happen overnight.

Just remember, by you alone stopping to eat animal, indeed you saved thousands of animals in your lifetime. How about your other generations?

Just imagine...If everyone is capable to behead the animals that he/she eats (and legally right to do so), what would happen to the entire society and world? Vegetarianism is a Physical-Emotional-Intellectual balance...never stop at eating habit alone, but the philosophy is more to working towards the "root" of all cause.

I hate eating animals.
The only meat i eat is chicken, i must stop eating that aswell.
I dont think humans would be very happy if we started chopping the less convenient ones for food.
