For girls/women who are vegetarians.?!
I am 14 years old and I just became a vegetarain 3 weeks ago and i just my period. I usually have a lot of craming the first day of my period for about an hour or so so that's not the problem. It's weird it's not like my usual period it's not heavy at all it's very light. I never have it like this it's usually like this at the end for me. I did quit cold turkey but should this be a problem. My parents don 't want me to be a vegetarian although I think they are giving in a little bit now. I'm thinking about just not saying anything and if it's like this the rest of my period and next month then I'll say something. I think my body just needs to get use to it. What do you think?
Answers: I wanted to put this in the vegetarian/vegan section because if I put in women's health a lot of people will tell me to go back to meat.

Hun, this is more normal than what you are used to. Women bleed each month because that is how a woman's body cleanses itself of toxins. Less bleeding = less toxins in the body for the body to clean. It is a positive sign.
If you will find an accurate historical reference to how women used to experience their monthly cycle, before the pesticides in our food, before all that junk everyone eats constantly nowadays, you will find that in general they bled very little, often for a day or less.
you're fine.
you should probley get more protine (beans) any kind will do it
Never look a gift horse in the mouth.
I do Raw Vegan, so does my adult daughter & eldest grandaugter. Periods have become a beeze compared to when we ate animal flesh. Even being Veggie or Vegan helps from everything I've read. PMS is almost a thing of the past for all of us.
1) It has to do with the lack of outside hormones(fed to animals)
2) You are alot less like to get Fibroid Tumors as a veggie or vegan.
Your body has responded very quickly & nicely to the plant based diet. All the awfulness you have experienced during a period is not "The Norm" what you have now is. Yes I do think you are adjusting & next month may be different but I think in a few months you will find a less reactive time during the month. 1 where you can be active, less grumpy, etc.
Key is to eat a good balanced plant based diet with no JUNK.
Slainté(to your health)
When I first cut red meat and poultry out of my diet, along with most dairy, my cramping was significantly reduced. I used to have to take birth control pills because I would vomit during my period - that's how bad it was.
Now, I still get cramps, but whenever I'm eating lots of fibre and avoid dairy products, I get much shorter, lighter periods, and much fewer cramps. I've read that hunter-gatherers, without dairy and less meat in their diets, got their periods much later, often at 17 or 18 years old, and have less cramping (though that may also be due to more pregnancies).
I wouldn't worry too much. If your period stops altogether, worry then - that means you need to eat more.
I've always had light periods, and I went vegetarian (then vegan) in my thirties, so I didn't notice a big change in my periods. Your body is probably adjusting to your new diet. I also would be grateful for lighter periods and less cramping. It actually sounds like an argument in favor of vegetarianism. Next time a friend complains about her heavy period/nasty cramps, you can tell her that going veg made your periods lighter and might help her.
I don't understand what you're worried about. Your period was lighter than usual....that's never a bad thing. If you were missing it completely, then it would be something to worry about. Also, you're only 14 and your periods are going to fluctuate for a few years anyways, with or without meat. There are many factors in life that affect it besides your diet, and sometimes it's nothing, just your body being unpredictable.
There is absolutely no way that being a vegetarian could negatively affect your reproductive organs.
I think you should try fruitarian for a month and see what happens.
Fruitarianism is the pursuit of a strict form of vegan diet that is limited to eating the ripe fruits of plants and trees. Fruitarians (frugivores[1] or fructarians) eat in principle only the fruit of plants.[2] As with other dietary practices, such as vegetarianism and raw foodism, some people[attribution needed] consider themselves fruitarians even if their diet is not 100% fruit. As long as the percentage is higher than 50%, they are (predominantly) fruitarian.[3] Usually fruitarians who include foods other than fruit follow a vegan diet.[4]
If you're really worried about it, you should see a doctor, but I think you're probably fine, for what it's worth.
I used to have pretty severe PMS and very heavy periods that lasted for a week back when I was eating meat, eggs and dairy. I always knew it was coming because I felt like total crap for a whole week before (tiredness, mood swings and depression, breast tenderness, serious carb cravings, etc).
By contrast, it actually snuck up on me this month. Before I knew it, it was there without the typical warnings of times past. Then it only lasted for about 4 days. Oh, and I didn't even need to use super plus absorbancy anything :).
No, I think you're okay.
You probably just started your period not to long ago and are still adjusting to your cycle?
I don't see any other reason for it to be that way besides stress possibly..
I've never had that experience..
I think you're absolutely fine. It's normal for periods to change with changes in diet, and unless it stops completely, it's generally nothing to worry about. I'm going to suggest 2 things- I think you should probably take a multivitamin (I'm one of those people who think that most people should take one just as insurance), and secondly, I think you should mention it to your mother because there's no need to worry about things like this alone. A quick call to your doctor could put your mind at ease. There's bound to be a change in your iron levels as well as hormone levels after giving up meat, and both of those would affect your period. At your age, irregular periods are pretty common anyhow. Go talk to your mom!
you are fine <3 you will feel so much better after becoming a veg!! welcome to the club. lol xo
