I'm sorry, but that's not vegetarian. Vegetarian's eat no flesh. What you're describing is jokingly refered to as a 'doe-eyed vegetarian' meaning that you only eat things with ugly-non-human eyes like fish and poultry.

I'm not saying that you should scrap the idea, I'm just saying that you shouldn't call yourself a vegetarian. Any reduction in meat-eatting is GREAT for your body, the animals and earth.

I found the best way to get rid of meat was to just stop. I started buying fake meats from Boca, Gardenburger & Morningstar Farms. They make excellent burgers that look like meat and even have cheese or smoke flavors in them. The hot dogs aren't very good, but the "chicken patties" and "chicken nuggets/strips" are wonderful. Gardenburger even makes fake bbq "ribs". Morningstar Farms makes breakfast "sausage" and "chicken" and "steak" chunks for stir-fry, stews and even fake "ground beef" for making hamburger helper style meals.

good luck

Well, fish is still meat, so you would have to consider whether you want to become a vegetarian (no meat including seafood!) or reduce your meat consumption to just fish (which is still a good move, I think, but not vegetarian all the way).

You should learn about it first, to make sure you get a balanced diet. Go to the library and take out books on vegetarian and vegan lifestyles and nutrition, to make sure you don't get malnourished...

I'm a vegan and I had to do the same old research too when I was around your age.
The 2nd question - wow, you are talking to an old school goth here, compared to the Hot Topic crop that has sprung up recently.

If you want to start dressing in all black, that's up to you.

However, why? Are you depressed? Do people in bands you like dress like that? Do you just like it? Think about your motivation. You might get picked on (I didn't but I was lucky I think!)

Personally I have had a 95% black wardrobe since I was 14, it was just what I liked. I've always had random hairstyles and dyed my hair a lot. I have multiple piercings.

I don't know how to advise you in that regard...

However you would have to go to a totally different section, this isn't a vegetarian issue :) But let me give you some word of advice on the whole thing, people tend to do the goth thing because of music they like... for instance I listen to 80's goth (bands like Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees); I also listen to a LOT of death metal and heavy metal (Nightwish, Opeth, Within Temptation, Haggard, etc). It's sort of a music-related thing (like emo with the music and the style).

Well, lots of luck young person. Freaking out is a mom's job. She is suppose to keep you going in the right dirrection until you are grown and well rounded. It is the hardest job on the planet, so give her a break.
Question one. Try some of the soy products that mimic meat. You know, soy burgers. When I was in the hospital once, I had a choice of meat or substitutions. I chose the soy meals because I was curious. I loved the food.
Question 2...Don't deprive yourself of all the beautiful colors of clothing. She probably would freak at black and gray. I would too. Are you going Goth? Gang? or just unhappy?

1st- why are you no longer eating red meat? Whatever your reason you need to concentrate on that and find yummy alternatives for the meat. 2nd- As long as you don't get into drugs/alcohol, etc. your mom should just deal with the colors you choose to wear. You're 13 and as long as your clothes are not too revealing for someone who's 13 then the colors you choose should be your decision. You could be doing a lot worse things then wearing blacks and greys. She's not always going to like what you choose but that's ok (it's part of growing up-for both of you). She needs to let go a bit and realize that she can't contol everything. Good Luck to U!!!
