E.G. qworn, fake bacon, vegetarian chicken slice....................

can anyone explain this to me

1. They don't want to eat animals, but are used to eating certain things they grew up with that were made with meat and they want to eat non-meat versions of that.
2. Some vegetarians do not give up meat by choice. They may have been advised by doctors and/or dietitians to stop eating meat because of kidney disease or some other health problem. Eating "fake meat" might be an easy way to make this transition.

I have been vegetarian for 23 years, I like to eat Boca burgers sometimes.

Im not a vegetarian bt it's mostly because they don't believe in animals dying and being killed for us to eat.
=] x

lol, never thought of it like that. Sorry, can't explain it either.

no need to be confused its simple to some personaly I dont think that quorn products taste anything like meat but some meat eaters are easily fooled I guess

well, maybe the people who have had meat like how it tastes but don't like the way it came to be... animals being killed for our own tastebud enjoyment. I don't know, ask a vegetarian!
Good luck!

Im vegetarian - and meat substituetes are very handy -it means we can eat meals with meat eaters without having to cook a compleatly differnt meal. (for example sunday roast)

It's because they don't want to kill animals in order to have food. So they eat soy or vegetarian/vegan substitutes of chicken, beef, or whatever else. It's more convenient because you don't have to make something that is totally different than what everyone else is eating. You can feel more normal with out the guilt of eating something that died just so you could feel full. Plus it's easier to cook the substitutes.

Or the reason might be that they like the taste of meat, but they just don't want to be a part of animal cruelty.

I think the reason is not really that they do not like the taste of meat, it is more that they do not want to be a part of animal cruelty.

Also, it's easier to cook if there is some substitute, otherwise they have to nibble on carrots the whole day, this surely gets boring ;-)

Quorn, fake bacon, and "vegetarian chicken slice" whatever that is, isn't made out of animals.

Yes, I wonder that too. We never eat chicken that taste like carrot

They probobly think its tastes good but would rather eat a crummy imitation than to eat a poor dead animal. but i am not a veg head i love meat :)

these people are just doing it for the "poor helpless animals" i am sure if the animals weren't a factor in this they would still be eating burgers and steaks.

i don't eat the fake meat crap, i like my veggies!!! i became a vegetarian because i couldn't stomach the taste of meat anymore, so i don't eat it or anything that mocks it. i swear half of these vegetarians wouldn't make it if it wasn't for boca or morningstar.

i have to shop in a vegan shop for my son he cannt have milk and they do things like that, maybe its because they liked the taste but not the thought of a animal being killed for it.

Our meat-eating metabolism craves protein, and our sense of smell and taste is geared toward that.

Our bigger brains tell us that we can reduce our dependence on animal protein, though, and by creating non-meat foods that taste like meat, vegetarians get the best of both worlds.

They are probobly vegetarians because they dont want to kill animals so when they eat fake meat theyre eating what they like without killing animals.

I know that they are healthy and great for meals which other parties eating can also enjoy. Also so they can have things like chili and a burger. It makes a ton of since most vegetarians don't eat meat because of the cruel way animals die for us not because what it taste like.

Some people are vegetarians because they don't like the taste of meat, but most are vegetarians because they don't agree with killing animals for food, especially with the 'factory farming' methods we have. I knew a vegetarian who craved bacon sandwiches but he hated the way animals are killed to provide food in such an inhumane way.

i have never actually thought about it but i suppose you know that it may taste like it but it isnt something that has actually been murdered..it hasnt been killed so it is therefore ok..

i see ur confusion and i wonder the same thing as well, i am vegetarian and do not eat all that meat free meat. its because personally, i do not miss the taste of meat at all but i guess that vegetarians that do, do so because they do.

i don't know. i slaughter my own meat and to the butchering so tofu and that just isn't for me.

because it replaces REAL meat
and it's one way to get protein
eatting meat is cruel and can cause tons of problems, like diseases, cancers, and osteoporosis
and dont say "vegetarians/vegans look sick" or think that just cause your vegan you dont get enough protein or that we get bone problems or something
vegetarians get LOADS of protein and with a proper vegetarian diet[which is easy] you wont look sick or have bone problems
besdies, not eatting meat can make your bones stronger[that's what happened to me] and it reverses heart disease, which starts in childhood if you eat meat

I've been vegetarian for the past 15 years, but I love the taste of meat.
My reason for not eating it is that I really love animals, and personally believe that we don't have the right to kill them for food.
I'm very happy that there are meat substitutes available as it makes living with my principles that little bit easier!

I'm nearly 40 and have been a Veggie for the last 15 years, obviously for the majority of my years I loved the flavours associated with Meat hence I do enjoy Quorn, TVP etc. I used to be a fisherman and I can't even eat fish now as I know that most fish we eat is actually gutted whilst still alive. I'm totally against intensive farming but I really do appreciate and respect all things Organic and the respect afforded to animals. I hope this might shed a wee bit more light on your question?

Many many do.
I would not go near the fake meats personaly and only eat one fake cheese that dose not even tast like the real one but i like it.

the question should be with other alternatives designed to taste like meat why do people continue to eat meat?

Mabee some where meat eaters previously and still craved the tast.

well, we dont want to eat meat made from animals,

the vegie stuff doesnt taste like the real thing....you can cook it and get the same satisfactory from it as real meat.
also without it, its harder to get our protien in.

Quorn ,IMO, does not taste like meat . Its abit like tofu - just another food.

Also you are stereotyping Vegetarians -
I am vegetarian ,but I don't eat fake bacon or chicken slices. I have no desire to eat things that taste like meat as personally I find it an undesirable taste.

Some people however want these products so that they can fit in better in social situations, where meat eaters often alienate Vegetarians.

And finally, some people may just like them- whats wrong with vegetarians wanting to eat these products? they aren't made out of meat are they ?

I hope that has helped explain

Well we're not anti-taste.

Animals have to die for us to eat their meat.

No brainer question

i have the same problem whats that all about
i think its that they wana be healthy but then they can just
exersise
grannys should be vegetarian couse they cant
exersise so eat healthy i guesssssssssssssss

I'm a vegetarian and I don't want to eat anything that tastes like meat. I prefer Gardenburgers to Boca burgers cause Boca tastes too much like meat. I like fake bacon cause to me it doesn't taste like dead animal bacon it tastes better.

Eating meatless meat substitutes is healthier. Some people prefer the healthier cruelty free option.

We CHOOSE not to murder innocent animals for our food. We are not choosing to limit ourselves to just what YOU think we should eat. Slaughtering a bunch of soybeans to make a veggie burger isn't an ethical dilemma, so we can have foods we're used to, have all the variety we want in our diet, and not have to compromise our ethics. I don't know how it's confusing. One is bloodshed, the other is not.
