Does being Vegan affect your pregnancy?!

Question: is it unhealthy for the baby to be vegan during pregency?

Answers: is it unhealthy for the baby to be vegan during pregency?

First off, babies starve because their parents are stupid and neglectful, not because they're vegan. Any real vegan is informed about nutrition. Getting enough calcium is an issue for any pregnant woman, so just be sure you get enough calcium. Many soy milks and other products come fortified, and a lot of pre-natal vitamins contain calcium. Pregnant women also need extra iron and protein. The iron can be found in a lot of pre-natal vitamins, but the protein is a little more difficult to get, especially if you're vegan. Just be sure to incorporate plenty of high protein foods into your diet. As long as you are conscious of your dietary decisions, you and your baby should be healthy. It is always a good idea to talk to your doctor, though.

This depends on your overall general health and is a question better answered by your ob/gyn. I understand the importance of your principles but I believe the health of your baby should take priority. Talk to your ob/gyn and consult a pregnancy nutritionist.

CONGRATS!!

I'm not sure about being vegan during pregnancy. But after the baby is born, you'll need to be careful. There are several stories out there about babies starving because their parents tried to feed them a vegan diet. Here's one...

If you're healthy overall, it's not going to harm you. Women in India and parts of China have been doing it for thousands of years.
You'll need to be extra careful to get extra calcium, protein and iron that doesn't come entirely from soy. Soy has estrogens that might harm the fetus (then again, meat has hormones that are just as harmful).
Talk to your doctor and to a nutritionist to be on the safe side.

it definately should not. it's always the best idea to keep your doctor informed of what you eat, but there's absolutely NO reason a well-rounded vegan diet would be unhealthy for a fetus.

try to feed your child breast milk.
its natural (and i personally think god intended for women to feed their children that way, vegan or not).

im not so sure about soy milk, i wouldnt try it though.

but during the pregancy i would suggest that you feed the
bab(ies)y all of the vitamins needed. Whatever you do, do not starve the baby.
