Should I join PETA????!

Question: Hello.
I am a vegetarian, and thinking about going vegan, i don't know yet. I want to do something to help save the animals in factory farms and slaughterhouses. I have heard of PETA, but my mom tells me some of the people that have joined PETA are nuts.
Any good vegetarian or vegan active organizations out there?
I am 13, so please don't make it a place I won't be able to join.

~thanx!!! =]

True vegans do not belong to extremist organizations. They are violent and do nothing but make true vegans look like a bunch of criminals. Your mom is right. You won't find any true vegans members of PETA.

i think you should, but you still have to pay a small fee. The minimum is 16$. So if your mom is okay with paying, you should. You have nothing to lose, and you get free stuff to promote PETA. hope i helped!

I would recommend you not to join PETA, but I'm afraid I don't know any organizations.
Sorry~!

People who join PETA are not nuts. That's what I was always told too. I'm 17 and I'm a member of PETA. PETA has a minimum $16 annual fee to be a member, but you can join at 13. You should join. It is a great cause.

There are people who are "nuts" in every organization -PETA is filled with extremists, but if you are going vegan then you should fit right in.

If you really want to make a difference join this organization, it is supported by Terri Irwin....

I agree with your mom, they will go over board to prove a point and will even do illegal things like break in to places and let the animals out. I heard recently that they were boy coting KFC and used sex blow up dolls to say that KFC blows. That's in really bad taste for me and I wouldn't have any thing to with an organization that dose things like that. They also don't think that any animals should be pets including cats and dogs and are against using animals in circuses or zoos. I can see some of there points but I don't agree with how far they take it, expeically since many innocent humans are being tortured and starved and no one speaks out for them.
I'm all for helping animals and wish I didnt eat meat my self. The best thing you can do for about factory farms is to not eat meat so right on, your doing great in that department. You can also speak out with word of mouth and try to get people to switch to farm raised meat. Its also a lot healthier for people. Donating items to your local no kill animal shelter will help, if your interested in that.

Well haha i'm thirteen too and I don't think we can do anything with the factory farms and slaughterhouses but if you want to do something a little closer to home you could volunteer at your local animal shelter or the SPCA. I'm volunteering there and anybody over 12 can do it if they have their parents volunteer and attend with them. You can foster animals too.

Please don't join PETA. They have become less about the animals and more about promoting themselves. I think going vegan will do more to help save animal lives than paying 16 bucks to this organization...who btw bankrolls terrorist groups like ALF.

You mom might be correct

No, alot of vegans are sick of peat. They are nuts!

Peta wants your money, so maybe you should join. They'll even send you pages of nifty little address labels for you to put on the envelopes of all the money they want you to send them, and they're not just looking for a little bit of money, they want you to send "as large a donation as you can possibly manage" (I believe that's what it said on the last letter I got from them). I'm not even a member, I just sent for a starter kit a few months ago. They harrass and they bully, but one good thing- when you don't send them money, they stop sending you address labels! :)

PETA's a very active and dedicated group... I would join them if you're passionate about animal rights / vegetarianism. PETA has over 1.8 million members and supporters, so of course there are going to be some nuts... but that's true of any organization. I have a friend who's currently interning there, and from what I've heard, it's a very professional organization with great people.

Mercy for Animals is also extremely active and they have effective pro-vegetarian commercials on MTV. Their site is http://mercyforanimals.org/ if you're interested.

You are a minor living at home. Your mother's word should be enough for you at the moment regardless of what anyone else says. Why would you ask and trust complete strangers on the internet more than your mother?

There are many organizations that are mor worthy of your time ad money ( such as your local ASPCA) other than PETA. PETA will just use you as a statistic to show how much support they have and get you to pay for it (your yearly $16 "membership fee") to boot. Ad guess what? Being a vegetarian is about the only thing you can do for now to save factory animals. Joining PETA will definitely not.

NEW ID ALERT!!

Yes join PETA if your goal is to have people laugh at you.

PETA is not respected by vegers and meaters alike, except by children.

skylar----peat? Not the brightest crayon in the box are you? Sadly, I agree with your stance though.
