French Fries:
Potatoes, vegetable oil (partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor (wheat and milk derivatives)*, citric acid (preservative), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), dimethylpolysiloxane (antifoaming agent)), salt. Prepared in vegetable oil ((may contain one of the following: Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated corn oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness), dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent). *CONTAINS: WHEAT AND MILK (Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients.)
Eat the fries. It's natural beef flavoring but not actually beef. If it was beef it would just say what part of beef it was.
Wheat and milk are divulged as the starter ingredients of the beef flavor. They don't give the rest of the ingredients because it's kept secret from the competition.
I mean, if they were going to use actual beef, why would they even bother with the wheat and milk ingredients? There would be no reason to not just use ALL beef for the flavoring because a little or a lot is the same thing to those they are trying to appease.
They aren't fit for human consumption but it's not because of the beef. Stay out of McNasty's and you won't have this problem. Just buy a bag of frozen fries at the grocery store - better yet sweet potato fries baked in the oven.
Where the hell have you been? It was a huge media deal a few years ago that their fries are cooked in beef flavoring.
Exactly how would you get fake beef flavoring?
In the United States they use a beef byproduct to flavor the fries (it's listed as "natural flavoring" in the ingredients). In India and Great Britain their fries are beefless because of the huge Hindu populations. In other countries, such as Australia, they still use beef fat to cook the fries in. So it depends where you are.
There's no beef in McD's fries anymore. Just because you want to take a swipe at them is no reason to claim they do.
Like the other poster said, what would be the point of only using a little beef semi-hidden as natural flavoring as opposed to just using beef flavoring if all of you vegers supposedly know they're doing it? Isn't the point of not using any beef how they make it acceptable for you?
Besides, I asked a crystal child and they said there's no beef.
OMG OMG OMG! LOL
It's up to you. Technically, their fries have real beef flavoring in them, so if you're an ethical vegetarian you might want to avoid them. It depends on your reasons. I eat them, a few milligrams of beef fat doesn't bother me.
How many times can this come up before somebody figures out that the only reason for posting is to "get" " Evil McDonalds" ? The info is readily available. Duh.
This same thing has been on Answers too many times, if it is new to you I'm sorry.
Yes, their fries are sprayed with a beef kind if flavoring.
Or at least cooked in the oils that have touched meat.
I don't eat them..
And... I doubt you're vegetarian lol
omg! technically you should have paid more attention to what you eat.
omg! technically.. you cannot say you are vegetarian then change you mind two words later, technically or not..
omg! technically, you can eat anything you want or can, labels be damned
yea beef talkoid or something like that... you're eating beef :P
McDonalds USED to use beef flavouring made from beef in their fries (read fast food nation) but now they've actually got a 'vegetarian society certification' for their fries - this is only in the UK, I'm not sure about the rest of the world.
Personally, I would still avoid them because McDonald's isn't exactly the most ethical company around. If you're a vege/pesci/loca/hypocrit...i mean flexi/whatever-tarian for ethical reasons, It would be completely contradictory to support a company that not only treats animals horribly but also exploits human workers horribly.
MCD's openly state than NONE of thier food can be treated as vegetarian, here is thier press release form July 2007:
"McDonald's does not represent any of our foods as being vegetarian. However, we gladly accommodate customer requests to custom-order items without meat (i.e., without beef, pork, chicken or fish). Note that even though we provide the flexibility to order items without meat, we cannot guarantee that during preparation the item does not come into contact with meat or poultry."
And here is the disclaimer on the McDonald's website:
"No products are certified as vegetarian; all products may contain trace amounts of ingredients derived from animals."
So, they will not even tell you the tomatoes are suitable for vegetarians.
And then, just to contradict themselves and prove they have no clue whats going on within thier own company, they seek veggie society approval in the UK....
In the UK, McDonalds have the following products certified as vegetarian:
Toasted Roast Veg Deli Sandwich
Balsamic Dressing
Apple and Grape Bag
Oatso Simple with Robertsons Strawberry Jam
Bagel with Philadelphia Light, Flora, Country Life Butter or Robinsons Strawberry Jam
Fruit Toast with Country Life Butter or Flora
Fruit and Danone Yoghurt
Garden Salad
As you can see, there are no fries in that list.
You can check this in the veggie soc database:
http://www.seedlingshowcase.org.uk/eatin...
The veggie soc disclaimer made me smile:
With McDonalds as with all companies producing Vegetarian Society Approved products, our logo does not indicate any level of approval (or disapproval) of the company, its working practices or other products it produces.
In truth, most vegetarians would not really want to give thier food money to these people.
no you cant.
it is made out of beef, because it is supposedly cheaper than vegetable fat, but Burger King and Windys are safe.
These are the exact ingredients in the fries:
French Fries:
Potatoes, vegetable oil (partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor (wheat and milk derivatives)*, citric acid (preservative), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), dimethylpolysiloxane (antifoaming agent)), salt. The french fries do not contain real beef except for the beef flavor. You can definately eat their fries. Good Luck!
