Help with trying new foods (have an eating disorder)?!
I keep eating egg whites, veggies, and fruit all the time. Fats are a few almonds a day and half a slice of cheese.
Answers: I keep eating the same foods everyday and feel like I'm not healthy. Does anyone have tips for how to add new foods? I automatically buy and eat the same thing. I have an eating disorder so this may play into it, but I really do want to eat different things.

Having an eating disorder is no fun. I have been thru that problem - my oldest daughter is just now getting over that problem.
My suggestion - talk to your doctor. Find out what it is that they recommend. They will be able to tell you if you are 'healthy' and any changes that you need to make in diet and approach to life considering your problems.
Second suggestion - don't totally depend upon your doctor. :) Meaning that you need to step up to the plate (pun intended - you need to learn to laugh and smile again) and start looking at food for what it is - a way to maintain your body so that it can function in the way that it is suppose to at the highest quality and efficiency.
Write down things that you find out and ask your doctor about them. I have amazed my doctor with some of the research that I have found from overseas on some medical problems that I have and ways to address them that would make it so that I can possibly totally get off all medication (I HATE PILLS).
You also need enough fat within your diet - or you are going to get the most UGLY WRINKLES - which I am sure that you do not want (being honest here).
I also suggest - get up every morning and walk to the mirror and tell yourself just how wonderful and beautiful you really are - because you ARE! Face it - beauty is really in the eye of the beholder - what you think is ugly, another is going to see as good looking. The secret is that real beauty comes from within. I have seen some women that had wonderful outward looks - but what was covered was a personality of a rock. Spend more time working on the one that gravity isn't going to have an effect upon - your inner self. Point in fact - I have a date every weekend - repeat dates with several different men that all know that I see other men - that are willing to wait to have a chance to go out with me. Is it because of my looks or personality? I think it is more than likely a combination of both. They all know that I will remain celebate till and if I marry again. A little something to think about.......
As to eating the same thing all the time - don't fall into that trap. Doing that lets you deny that you haven't really eaten that day - cause you can 'remember eating' - just play the mind game that it was today vs. a day or two ago. Variety is good - not to mention that it also gives you a variety of sources for the vitamins that you need within your diet.
Remember that if you don't take care of yourself - no one else is. Learn to love who and what you are where you are at.
You ever need to talk - feel free to drop a line. About a six months ago - I replied to a young girl's question on here that had an eating problem - even told someone else how to write to them so that they could possible help them since they didn't have a job and sat on the computer all day (I really worried about that little girl).
I can't promise to answer instantly - since I have a full time job and an active life. But I can promise that I will answer you.
Make an omelet with your veggies and keep one yolk in add a whole slice of cheese. Eat that and seek some professional help.
The best suggestion you can get is to eat more protein. Your not getting enough proteins, fiber or vitamins in your diet. Essentially your starving yourself and your body is eating itself. Might I suggest you seek an professionals advice and get counseling. Eating is the only way to survive and what your doing right now is not surviving, its dwindling and its not healthy. I hope for your health and your FUTURE you seek help and support from family members, your only hurting yourself and the ones that love you.
(p.s. - NOTHING hurts more than the truth)
Try vegetarian products made by Morning Star and Boca. I am not a vegetarian but I love their products.
Let someone else do your grocery shopping for you.
crap, i do the same thing =(!!!
maybe i have an eating disorder too!
First of all...only your doctor can tell you if you are healthy. They can do a blood test to check your cholesterol, iron levels, etc...However, there are a lot of things you can eat without feeling like you are going to gain weight. Its good that you are aware of your disorder and you are trying to make things better! My suggestion would be to take a cooking class (maybe you can even find a vegitarian one) so you can get excited about trying new things. Being cautious about your weight is one thing, but you should be able to have fun with food! Also, look online for some new recipes. Tofu is fun and adds an interesting texture to food. One other thing...take a mulit-vitamin, unless your doctor has suggested otherwise. I like prenatal vitamins because the folic acid helps strenghthen my hair and nails. You should be proud of yourself for recognizing your issues and trying to overcome them. Good luck!
How about Morning Star vegetarian food
Veggie "Burgers"
Veggie "Nuggets"
Veggie "Ribs"
Tofu!
When you go to the grocery store, walk down the aisles and really look at the different foods. If you see something appealing, give it a try. I don't see any grains in your diet - try some whole grain pastas. If you like cheese, you will love Annie's Organic Whole Wheat Mac & Cheese. Pick up a frozen veggie lasagna. Get some tortillas and peppers for quesadillas. Try a package of tofu chopped up and stir fried with a box of Thai Kitchen noodles (I like Thai Peanut the best). There are some soup mixes called Bear Creek (I think) that are really good too - they make a bean soup that's full of protien for you. I also highly reccomend Bolthouse Farms Juices - especially the protein and green goodness ones - they're full of vitamins you don't normally get like zinc and manganese. Those are just a few suggestions - just make time for a thorough trip to the grocery store and don't be shy about trying new things.
All you need is fruit.
Eat the yokes! They are the most nutritious part of the egg.
try tofu,veggie burgers,etc!
Here's what I do to keep from living off Cocoa Puffs: I swing by the store after work every couple days, and I grab a cart and hit the produce department. I find something totally new, maybe something on sale, something in season. Or I just ask the produce guy, "Hey, what's real good?" (In fact, they now know me so well the manager sometimes gives me freebies!)Then I go to recipezaar.com, search for whatever I vegetable I bought, and choose the highest ranked recipe for that veggie. I sometimes get something I think I'll hate--like asparagus--just to see if I can come up with a way to cook it that I would want to eat. Sure enough, I discoved oven roasted asparagus and it's DELICIOUS! My next recipe is a meatless lentil-loaf, which sounds awful but is supposed to be out of this world & super healthy!
This helps w/eating disorders, because you're taking the focus off food, and putting the emphasis on hunting down something new and cooking new recipes. Challenge yourself to find a new veggie each week, and prepare it in a different way. Bonus points if you can convince your friends or family to eat the weird new recipes you swear are delicious!
If you are eating the same foods and not feeling healthy, that is a good sign that your body is telling you something. You may be more healthy to embark upon a diet of reasonable balance and moderation.
Google "Flexitarian Diets" or "flexitarian" and you find a more safe and sane kind of vegetarianism ... one practiced by millions and millions of people around the world. And it is less stressful than a "strict" vegetarian diet.
Let Dr. Skummy tell you what to do. It's well known that I'm the kind of hag that does whatever he-she pleases (except find a spouse) and I can tell you I have eaten every food and tried every diet this big blue marble of a world has to offer. What you need to do is sit down and calculate the amount of nutrients you take into your body everyday. Then, compare that to what you're supposed to be taking in. Then, figure out what's missing and buy and eat foods that will give you those nutrients. Throw a multi-vitamin into the mix just to be safe.
As a flexitarian bungholarian my diet in the holidays was heavy on quality but light on health. I ate enough taquitos, raviolios, spam and grilled cheese sandwiches to feed the platoon I've been sleeping with! But that can only go on for so long before your body gives you signs. My body is telling me I'll never find a spouse and love is most certainly running in the opposite direction.....ooops sorry, I just ate 4 packs of Mentos and I'm a little loopy, dear.
Try putting a little bit of noodle in your veggie like make a stir fir or something. I know how you feel though so don't think you are alone,ok.
Hummus is really good for you too.
